Which Zelda game should I get first on the virtual console?

I've actually wondered about this. I've seen Link's Awakening on sale on the VC. I've never played it, and I've heard different takes on it.

Gamers are too reactionary. Games are like fine wine, they must linger for us to get their true taste. There are plenty of examples.

Is it on sale right now?

I would straight out say Zelda II since its my favorite Zelda game, but its not for everyone.

Since you are getting only one, get Link's Awakening DX, if you could get 2, then get both Oracle games.

I thought Zelda II was different than what Zelda really is?

No it's not on sale, but it's available on the EShop. I've just heard some people say it's great and others say it's crap. So I just wondered if it's worth getting.

Links Awakening DX has aged pretty well, though there are still some minor annoyances (like making the item trading side quest mandatory for story progression, and all rupees are blue but only worth 1).

Yes, it completely changes the formula. Its the only true Zelda RPG, controls are very hard to truly learn and master, the challenge is a huge difference from all the other zelda games, the music is also very good.

Its not your typical Zelda adventure.

Basically, it's one of, if not the, most difficult Nintendo games of all time.
