Switch your "Other Great Games" list with your "Retail" list and this is correct. For instance, Ocarina of time was okay, but it's nothing when compared to Kid Icarus: Uprising or Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

Metroid = Rayman > All
Rayman is in Smash!

While I sort of agree with you on a personal level, I tried to make a list that appeals to everyone.

No Rhythm Thief = fail list. Rhythm Thief is the #1 3DS game, and have yet to be beaten by ANYTHING on ANY CONSOLE this generation. It's THAT AWESOME!!! A proof that sometimes, Sega still has it. LONG LIVE SEGA!!!

Personally I like my list better

Must Buys

A Link Between Worlds
Fire Emblem Awakening
Kid Icarus Uprising (if you don't mind the controls)
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (if you like the gameplay, some people do, some people don't)
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby (out in November, unless you're a major Pokemon fan you can skip over X/Y)
Rune Factory 4
Shovel Knight (eshop exclusive)
Super Mario 3D Land
Super Smash Bros (out in October)
Virtue's Last Reward (but do yourself a favor and play the prequel, 999 first)

Must buy only if you've played previous installments in the series

Ace Attorney Dual Destinies (eshop exclusive)
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
Persona Q (for Persona 3/4 fans and out this Fall)
Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney (out in the US in August, already out in EU/AU regions)

Recommended but not as good as the titles above imo

Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Attack of the Friday Monsters (eshop exclusive)
Bravely Default (has a good long demo that's about eight hours long and gives you bonuses to use in the full version)
Cave Story (physical copies are rareish, but available on the eshop)
Fantasy Life (out in October)
Gunman Clive (eshop exclusive)
Harvest Moon: A New Beginning
Kirby Triple Deluxe
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (bump this to must buy if you haven't played the original game before)
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
Mario Kart 7
Pushmo/Crashmo (eshop exclusive)
Tales of Abyss
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call (out in September)
Yumi's Odd Odyssey (eshop exclusive)

Recommended titles that you should wait for a sale on or a price drop on

(Atlus published games go on sale often and Tomo Life isn't worth the full price)

Devil Survivor: Overclocked
Etrian Odyssey IV or Untold (both have great demos that let you transfer your save file to the full version)
SMT IV
SMT: Soul Hackers
Tomodachi Life

Games to look out for in the distant future

Ace Attorney Trilogy Collection
Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Story of Seasons
Unnamed Korra game

Virtual Console

3D Classics: Kid Icarus
3D Classics: Kirby's Adventure
3D Classics: Sonic the Hedgehog

TC, you should really put a disclaimer saying to play 999 first before Virtue's Last Reward.

The good news is that there is an iOS version that is easy to get through for story purposes.

That's true but I'd recommend the DS version over it simply because one of the big twists makes more sense, you don't miss out on some of the funniest dialogue in the game from having the puzzles removed, and you have a 3DS so you should be able to play it anyway (even for Europeans because DS games are region free) while not everyone who has a 3DS has an iOS device.

But that's kind of like watching a summary of the plot of Dark Souls before playing Dark Souls II, you'd be skipping a really great experience and a better game.
