Fusion tip of the day #13: Darn the mods!

#1-DyntosPosted 6/25/2012 7:11:57 AM
Some weapons need very few, if any mods to be good.

So while you may not have the tools, time, or knowhow to create the kind of god-weapons me, and I suppose certain little "heros" make, you can still whip out something to seperate you from the herd.

The following don't really need any specific mods to be good:

Magnus Club
Raptor Claws
Brawler Claws
Midnight Palm
Viridi Palm
SkyScraper Club
Babel Club
Darkness Bow
Taurus Arm
Ogre Club
UpperDash Arm

And probably many others.

While you may not be able to put all the mods you want onto a single weapon, POWERS can fill the role. Powers do not last forever unlike mods, but they do usually bring more power than even the highest level mods would.

Making weapons, probably those with decent homing, damage and player speed can use the trade-off power to easily get kills.

However, they'll obviously not be as good as dedicated weapons. By just taking it a little further, just one or two mods, you can create some pretty GREAT weapons.

Examples:

Eyetracks with shot range +2 or higher. That's all you need, just use the slip shot and homing boost powers.

Guardians with shot range +2 or higher. Makes the shields stay up longer and you become an asset to your team. (mostly for team usage, but they also tend to do great damage)

Magnus Club with Dash Ch. Shot mod to get it to at least 7.5 range or higher. All the shots SHOULD ohko.

(Many weapons need just this, or also shot range to be good. So keep that in mind)

Compact Arm with Shot Range +2 or higher.
Just slap on energy charge, bumblee, playing dead and pepper the enemies into submission.

This also a fine weapon to make with multi-stars, although I do believe it's best with ranged only. However, bumblebee will let you counter melee players with your own melee attack, so doing some damage with that is fun.

Many weapons only need one or two mods to be considered above average, and more than capable of positively CRUSHING most enemies, and rooms you'll find yourself in.

Almost any weapon with in-peril attack boost mods can kill under trade-off. So if you can make a weak weapon which has a high ability to land hits, but not kill (Phos/Divine bow, palms, most blades, etc) Just prepare to bring trade-off, and pisces heal. Pisces will let you chill at in-peril mode for a while with your heightened attack power.

Item attack +4 on any weapon which increases your speed (inherently or by a mod) is also a great way to control a map. Just bring along double item level 3, and maybe item vaccuum (depending on your speed)

Note: Fusion Tip of the Day will be an ongoing event, aimed towards newcomers to help prevent more floods of terrible 6/6 Overall defense -4 weapons in online, and promote proper goals and techniques.

If you do not see a fusion tip of the day by 3pm EST, feel free to make your own. Just keep the number in check, and everything below the line.

Feel free to discuss concerns, criticisms, and the like about today's Fusion Tip!
Suggestions, and discussion about the next day's tip is also promoted.

Happy Fusions!

I've posted before about the awesomeness of Lancer Staves; these dont need much in the way of mods to be effective.

I have one with 6 Ranged stars and Forward Dash Charge Shot +4, and no other abilities, which gets one hit kills from as far away as 50 M (It gets even stronger as you get closer). It also has decent homing ability, and the shots penetrate enemies (got a few double and triple kills before!)

The main drawback is its heavy weight. It slows you down quite badly, and you tend to run out of stamina quickly.

Skyscraper Club wants very Value-efficient defense to survive being kited.

Magnus Club is surprisingly susceptible to being abused by Reflect Barrier, both as a solo weapon and a team weapon.

Thought I'd point both out.

TC, you are so wrong. Almost every melee weapon at least needs movespeed, and almost every ranged weapon at least needs range. Viridi Palm with its default range pretty much sucks, especially since its shots go down in power very fast if they don't have any extra shot range.

Lightweight alleviates the speed problem rather well.

And viridi palm is still good with it's default range.
I never said the weapons would be perfect with those mods, just that they'd be "good"

You simply must be aware of the pitifully low level of the randoms online. you don't need a perfect weapon to compete, hell you don't even need a weapon with any proper mods to compete most times.

Your weapons suck, their's suck more doesn't mean your weapons are good. But true, your weapon would probably still be better than a lot of the other players you'd play against.

I've seen your weapons, so there's no denying that against you, a mere shot range eyetracks, magnus club dash ch. shot +4, or standing cont. fire +4 compact arm would not get one very far. But I wouldn't say those weapons suck...

I'm merely trying to give people without the means, ability, or knowhow of the long, and complicated tasks of perfectly modded weapons.

Also, I consider above average to be "good". Considering the very low level of thought put into most weapons I see online, even something as simple as a 6 melee star taurus would be considered good from me.

I'm sorry that our definitions differ, but I hope my explanation has been satisfactory for you.
