I mean, it makes sense in a way. All that has been said about Kingdom Hearts is that it fell into darkness after the X-Blade shattered. I'm seriously doubting that they won't bring it up again.
I mean, its been established that Sora has a big heart. Like, a REALLY big heart. As in, he's generally holding at least 2+ people in it at any given time. (Kairi, Ven, Roxas, Xion, Ansem the Wise's digital form, etc)
And it would explain how he connects so many people and always has that hopeful optimism -- he's a source of light.
Besides, would a twist like that really surprise anyone?
Maybe I'm just talking out of my a**; I won't lie and say that I understand the series completely. But it makes sense to me.

On a metaphorical level, he's somewhat similar, but he's obviously not literally Kingdom Hearts. Aside from not really making sense, it would go completely against Nomura's statements that he's an ordinary kid surrounded by extraordinary people.

Idk, I can see it. The hell? He never said anything like that...the closest you have to that is him saying if a plot twist is to obvious he doesn't want to do it. Which is why we've never actually guessed any of his plot twists right, because while we can get the most obvious part down there is still so much we miss. Seriously, all bets are off on guessing, IMO. Would anyone have guessed the time-travelling bit in this game?
I wouldn't put it past them is all I'm saying.
And sorry, I did twist that sentence a bit -- continuity wasn't the correct word. He does prioritize surprising the players with twists, though, sometimes at the expense of the narrative's clarity and the rules of the universe these characters inhabit. (Your Mileage May Vary, of course, but its hard to deny that the story's execution isn't always perfect)
