Days actually does this weird thing where it starts out with a s***ty camera, and then after completing a few tutorials, you "unlock" the better camera in the config menu (which actually IS better), so that's what he may have been thinking of.
Don't remember Re:Coded's, but don't remember having a problem with it either.
I think this game is one of the weaker in the series. I'm honestly not sure what the overall story was about, but I think that's mainly due to the way the story was told as well as SE penchant for not explaining anything. BBS was a great game that explained a lot compared to DDD.
Things I liked.
Being able to switch characters. (Just wished I wasn't forced to) Spirit Boards were interesting but they might as well have given you a sphere grid and let you go solo. The worlds. I loved how big each area of each world was, and how explorative they were. Riku's Spirit Links. I'd love to see them made into commands in later games.
Things I didn't like:
Drop system. Especially the first time it happend on a boss and when I got back I realized you had to start the boss fight from the beginning. How the story is told. Starts being told in flashbacks and then gets really convoluted and hard to follow or understand what's going on. The command system. No where near as interesting as BBS or even Coded. Diving. Was just annoying. Flick Rush. I hate this. It's only slightly better than KH2 Atlantis mini games.
