Does anyone know if that's the case? I've been swimming for like an hour now and no luck. (at my town) --- Currently playing: Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I think it only appears at night. Also, I don't think it appears on the island at all. At the very least, I haven't seen it during all the nighttime diving I've done there.

Yeah, it appears that Liquefy's faq has it listed as a night dive.
Here's what I've been using:
http://diehardgamefan.com/2013/07/01/whats-new-this-month-in-animal-crossing-new-leaf-july/ It is handy, I've yet to see a guide without mistakes though. Also, I notice that Liquefy and this author say "Giant Beetle" is that different from the Giant Stag? I couldn't find the "Giant beetle" in my Prima guide. --- Currently playing: Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Haven't seen it either. Does anyone know which month the island is stuck at all year? August? If that's the case, then, the Horseshoe Crab should be the most common there, according to Thonky. Still classified as rare though. --- 3DS FC: 0817 - 4343 - 4167

As far as I know, Giant Beetle and Giant Stag are the same thing. They've renamed a bunch of beetles (a number of them are now called "horned whatever" because they have "horns"). Ex. Elephant Beetle is now Horned Elephant.
I don't know what month the island is "stuck" on.. During June, I got things slated for June (obviously), July (Blue Marlin, Napoleonfish, most of the beetles) and August (Moray Eel, Ray, Puffer Fish. Long Locust), and even one from September (Migratory Locust), so I figure it's probably "summer" (June-Aug).
I'm going by dates from ACWW, btw. They may have changed dates a little, I don't know as I haven't checked each bug or fish with new lists.
