What is the purpose of wrapping paper?

Yes, I understand it's used to wrap items but then what? Are they meant to be then placed in letters since it doesn't seem like there is a hand-over option. If it is meant to be placed in a letter, why bother with the wrapping paper to begin with when you can just place items in letters right away?

Villager birthdays! :D

If you check the Animal Crossing Wiki -- http://animalcrossing.wikia.com/wiki/Animal_Crossing_Wiki -- there's a calendar for each month of the various birthdays for the villagers. If any of your villagers are on the month's list, you'll probably get an invite a few days in advance to their house for a party.

You can take along a birthday present -- there's a guide on Thonky's (http://www.thonky.com/animal-crossing-new-leaf/villager-birthdays/ ) -- which you wrap up using the wrapping paper.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! :) I tried looking in the animal crossing wikia {http://animalcrossing.wikia.com/wiki/Present} but it didn't provide any pertinent info.

Yeah, it's confusing, isn't it? xD

I was mystified to find out that you couldn't just give things to villagers (at least, that they hadn't asked you for) or visitors, nor put wrapped stuff on letters. It was only by going to a villager's house for a party that I found out what you're supposed to do with the wrapping paper!
