Because when I was under that assumption, the best part of the game was trying to kick Monty, Quillson and Bill out of my village.

I would hit them with my net, neglect them, get chores from them but not do them, everything.

Anyone else feel where I'm coming from?

Yes. They like to stress the importance of having some kind of relationship with the villagers - talking to them, running errands, writing letters, etc - and it literally makes no difference in their affection level as far as I can tell. You just get things for it.

My experience is that it does affect it. I've had great success ignoring villagers and they move out..thing is, not many people are patient enough and want their villager out tomorrow.
You have to not interact with them at all, ever. I got Coach to leave within one week using this method, and Patty is next. Mwa ha ha

I ignored Moose (one of my starting villagers) for weeks and not once has he ever asked to move out. Not a single talk.

I thought it was like that in previous games.
But definitely not this one!
I've had the 2 closest villagers (only ones whom I got pics from, hosted my bday, etc) request to move. But the fools who I want out of my town (Never talk to them, ignore them all the time) stay stubbornly still .____.

No. That was purely coincidence. It seriously doesn't affect how soon they move, you just miss out on the interaction and that's it. I've had my favorite characters - the ones I interact with most - be repeatedly the ones who move first (before I discourage them).

Ignoring them does not work.
