Fake art

#1Super-Mario-FanPosted 8/4/2013 10:31:40 AM
OK, so went to Redd's yesterday and starting looking at his art. I was using one of the wiki's available to identify fake art. The first three arts I looked at (painting and 2 sculptures) turned out to be fake. The fourth was a great sculpture, which wasn't listed as forged, so I bought it. Today I try and donate only to find out that it was fake two. So all FOUR of Redd's art for sale were fake, which makes me mad! Now I've got some questions:

1. Is it possible for EVERY piece of art to be forged?

2. How often does real art appear in his shop? Obviously there are more fakes that appear, but what are the chances that one or even two of his arts for sale are real?

I was under the impression that there was always at least 1 real art (or perhaps always exactly 1). So far, every time he has come to my town, it has seemed there is one real and three fakes. I can't tell the fakes and don't usually use guides, but I let my friends come and buy from him after I make my choice and they use the guides and it seems like there's always been one real and 3 fakes.

I thought there was always one real and three fakes. Though sometimes even with a guide it can be hard to tell if they are fake, mainly due to how small differences can be.

Sometimes, you have to check closely. And check again. And again.

Sometimes, the differences are so small, it's hard to determine which piece is real.

I'm still wondering about my first question: can any piece of art (whether painting or sculpture) be forged, or are there some kinds of art that's always real? The wiki is mute at this point IMO.

Yes, there are a few.

Use this guide

I ALWAYS double check though if it says that there is no fake just to make sure it matches perfectly. So far it hasn't been wrong.

Real paintings face a bit to the left. Fake art faces right. And sculptures are vice versa (real sculptures face right and face face left).

I used to think it was 1 real to 3 fakes but then one day he showed up and had 2 real art pieces for me. I did a double take and kinda just went on a whim and bought both of them and they were both genuine. So maybe it just...depends?

I just bought a fake statue (was in a hurry and couldn't check a guide) and it was facing right, so that isn't always true.
