Why do some villagers move out unannounced?

So far, I've had 2 villagers move out without confirming with me beforehand (Henry and Deirdre).

I've heard if you time travel in large increments, villagers might move out unannounced, but I've never time traveled in large increments and I talk to most of them at least once every other day or so.

For Deirdre, I did miss 4 days of gameplay due to school starting which might have caused the move. Also, I did have a full town of 10 villagers at the time she moved, so that might have contributed. But for Henry, I talked to him almost every day and I never time traveled more than 2 days at a time.

Talking to them doesn't often make them tell you they're moving. They have to ding you or you'll hear it from other villagers. If you talked to your other villagers enough, they would have told who was leaving, but not when.

You may have spoken to then, but if it was in a shop or Main Street they won't mention it either. Best way is to make sure you speak to them in the open at least once a day.

If they haven't mentioned the first notice of moving out to you, then they'll ALWAYS be roaming out in town while they're awake. They'll never give you any errands either. So it becomes pretty obvious who wants to move out if you just look out for those two signs.
