Watt's Gender: The Answer

#1bigstar66Posted 7/23/2010 7:19:30 AM
So a few days ago I messaged Nintendo about Watt's gender, knowing they, if anyone, would know the truth. I got the following response.

Hello,

I'm afraid there isn't an answer to your question about Watt. Nintendo excels at making sure our fans can get back story information, character descriptions, and--most importantly--the information they require to complete the games that we publish. This can happen through our website (www.nintendo.com), Player's Guides, and Nintendo Power magazine.

Having said that, many details about our games will remain mysteries, left to the active imagination of the player.

Sincerely,

R.M. Ricketts

That's cool and all, but two and a half years earlier I got this response from another question. I emailed Nintendo about who would win in a fight between Samus and Link (another message board debate):

January 7, 2008

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,

I'm afraid there isn't an answer to your question about who would
triumph in single combat: Link or Samus Aran. Nintendo excels at making
sure our fans can get backstory information, character descriptions,
and--most importantly--the information they require to complete the games
that we publish. This can happen through our website (www.nintendo.com),
Player's Guides, and Nintendo Power magazine.

Having said that, many details about our games will remain mysteries,
left to the active imagination of the player.

Sincerely,

Nintendo of America Inc.

Wow, what a stupid auto answer.

Who disagrees that Watt is female anyway? Trolls?

Many say that, I say it's more likely, but I still consider the male mentions of it even if it was an error.

People actually email nintendo and expect a serious answer? xD

I wouldn't say trolls, since SPM is more recent and lists her/him/zir as male. More recent work takes priority for some people.

I was told once that Nintendo confirmed Watt as female, but no one's ever given me a source on that, so I'm gonna ignore that and just give up on an official answer.

Look on the bright side: At least the auto-answer was relevant and didn't, say, assume you were asking how to tag videos when you were really complaining about people tagging their unfunny stuff with irrelevant celebrities and games.

It's obvious he's a boy. Just look at him.

I say female mostly the dialect seems more like young girl rather than a young boy. I also think all mentions of her being a boy is a typo.

Hey, I have an idea.
Let's just check the Japanese version.

If Li'l Sparkies do have gender, then Watt is female.

Anyway, last time I remember someone emailing Nintendo about the gender of one of the Paper Mario characters, they got a Pokemon-based auto-answer.

I think it was Watt. If so, then... Watt isn't a Pokemon. <_<
