I've played all of the other Paper Marios, and while they do have a little bit more personality and sustenance, this game is still really good for a handheld game.
What is with all the hate for this game? It seems like a little bit of a cut down version of the others, but I am still having an immense amount of fun with it. It's one of my favorite 3DS games second to Dream Drop Distance

Because this game would have been so much more if miyamoto didnt only want original characters. Its because people expected another ttyd and got dissapointed. I mean if Paper Mario was gonna get a fourth game what would u pick. Another sticker star or a TTYD?

Its not a little cut down, its majorly cut down.
They had no excuse, the portable excuse does not apply because the nintendo ds was more powerful than the n64 which had a very full paper mario game.

Spm removed badges, partners, and changed the battle system
Pmss removed everything else left except the paper refences and some attacks. Amoung the removal was the story.
Its not a bad game mind you, it just has nothing in common with the other paper marios other than the paper and some of the attacks.

Well oddly enough, I don't think it's a matter of excuses, more like experimentation that didn't live up to all of the fan's expectations.

Portability is no excuse for lack of characters and plot. Superstar Saga came out on the GBA ten years ago, and it had way more depth than this.

This was an intentional decision by Miyamoto. And Miyamoto has as much business working on Mario RPGs as George Lucas has directing movies. Miyamoto is great at gameplay. He hates stories, and, by his own admission, actively works to remove stories from Mario games.

It doesn't feel like PM at all. No plot to the chapters/worlds or really the entire game, no original characters, Bowser being a mute when he has a well established personality in this series, no partners, uninteresting worlds, no reward for your battles besides more ways to do more battles I don't like any of it. It all just feels like a very soulless edition to the series.

Because they wanted a reskin of TTYD, and that's not what this is.

ITT: A bunch of people who bought a game without doing their research first.

Seriously, if you guys did ANY looking up on a game at least a week in advance of it's release, you would have known exactly how the game was going to be, and NOT have "wasted your money", as you may believe. If you willingly purchase a game simply expecting a specific thing because of its title or the series prior, then it's only your fault for buying it.

No one forced you to spend your money unwillingly on a game you wouldn't have enjoyed, and there were TONS of reviews out for this game, including video reviews, where you get the chance to see actual gameplay (this is without mentioning the 34 minute video that's been released for who knows how long that showed a 34 minute video of a guy actually playing the game).

So, really, most of the people complaining are the people who saw the older pics from, like, 2 years ago and never looked back, holding their hopes on a pedestal because the truly believed that was going to be how it was gonna be released. Those who knew what they were getting and still bought it have really only themselves to blame for expecting more than what they got.
