Some of the greatest and most influential RPGs of all time minimize story.
Oh God, name five. Please, I want to hear this so badly.
Bumped because I also want to hear this. Well, see it technically. Whatever.
And TC, sorry if that post was a bit harsh, but I was kind of bothered by being called out on a technicality, and I did mean to include the higher ups in my post in what I said. After all, I'm sure they don't want to lose Paper Mario either.
Nah dude, I was being kind of a douche when I replied. But bickering is part of Gamefaqs. it's what makes this place special (and terrible). It's all good. Also still waiting for dude to name the biggest RPGs of all time which had simple storylines.
Well, thanks for being ridiculously cool about that, and I agree, part of the fun of Gamefaqs is its chaotic nature. Well if it counts I can tell you 4 great RPG's that don't focus too much on story: Threads of fate, Brave fencer Musashi, Megaman legends, and Dual hearts. |
SpunkySixPosted 12/3/2012 7:03:11 PM | Legends isn't a straight up RPG though, is it? And from what I've seen, it certainly has more unique characters with personalities and visual variety than this game does. --- Tissues to the extreme! Even a single drop makes ripples... |

I don't think his decision had anything to do with it being handheld. For christ sake radiant historia had a REALLY good story.
Radiant Historia isn't made by Miyamoto. Different designers have different views. Sakurai doesn't likes when games gets sequels over and over yet Square-Enix sees no problem that Final Fantasy is gonna release it's 15th main game soon. --- Want to make the boards a better place? ReptobismolPosted 12/5/2012 11:31:17 AM | I don't think a game can be considered that great and influential if it's neither well known or widely played. As such, none of the games on that list would qualify.
I'm pretty sure one of the games being referred to by the guy who made the original remark was Pokemon. --- An infant sea turtle is actually capable of killing an adult African bull elephant. It does, however, require a substantial amount of surprise. |

I'm pretty sure one of the games being referred to by the guy who made the original remark was Pokemon. While that's true, that's also kind of cheating since Pokemon isn't a classical RPG. That'd be like saying platforming doesn't need to have tight controls because Bit.Trip Runner didn't. --- nightScan is one of the greatest human beings on the planet. gamezrochard is a true man. |
ReptobismolPosted 12/5/2012 2:01:39 PM | Well then in that case, I think you'd be hard-pressed to name even two, let alone five.
I suppose the original Final Fantasy counts as one, since character development is a big part in making a story immersive (though not necessarily driving it, as some classic RPGs had mute protagonists) and while it's been quite a while since I've played it, I don't recall there being much more than "get crystals, stop Garland." --- An infant sea turtle is actually capable of killing an adult African bull elephant. That'd be like saying platforming doesn't need to have tight controls because Bit.Trip Runner didn't. Pokemon has way more unique characters and story development than this though. It isn't just "lol badges" especially Gen 5. --- Tissues to the extreme! So much... shiny goomba grinding... |
