Why does the hot spring not make Mario soggy? Again, wouldn't hot water be worse?

How does sleeping on a bed suddenly heal all your damage (looking at you, Bed in 1-3's secret door)? It is a genuine mystery.

Also, read the sign by the hot spring. It has no disclaimer of making you soggy, just wrinkling or tearing, iirc.

It still confuses me how Mario could possibly fit an air conditioner in that hole in 5-5.

How does Mario walk? He's two-dimensional, there's no significant surface area with him. He could probably stand (and you'd have to leave him alone), but walk around?
