Dark Souls had smooth combat? lol ya lost me there pal.
PvP was the only time there was lag in action. The gameplay was smooth. In the witcher, the controls are unresponsive at times. The damage seems random and there are no backstabs as far as I know...

It's a game where you learn patterns and play footsies with every enemy. There's the initial satisfaction when you learn how to beat a fight, but usually the steps involved are so simplistic that it won't be "You know enough tricks to barely get by" it's usually "You know every trick to get by flawlessly or you don't know anything and get curbstomped". At least that's how it was for me.
I think the biggest combat issues is that you don't have full control over everyone of Geralt's combat abilities. That with the combination that you have to make full commitments with your attacks gives the combat that clunky feeling.
Dark Souls however, is very far from "Perfect" It's generally unsatisfying after awhile and gets boring.
Most action games on the harder difficulties are much more difficult than Dark Souls. I don't get why people keep saying Dark Souls and Witcher 2 are some of the hardest games out right now. That just simply isn't true.

Who cares about what u said about dark souls. Of course every enemy had a pattern. Most other action games, the enemies have horrible AI, just like this game. Im playing it on hard mode and the enemies are like mentally handicapped...

Since when was no strafing bad? You were so mobile in KH1 that you either had to devote to defending or focus on mobility. Not really bad combat just a different mechanic.

People need to grow up and accept that Demons Souls broke action rpgs and from now on, action rpgs need to take lessons from DS...
And like I said, yea kingdom hearts 1 had good combat. But it didnt set precedents like DS did...
