I'm a 27 year old man, and I just don't see the appeal of playing as a little kid, I wanna be a badass in my games, and the main character of this game..well...I just don't see it. I've played tons of rpgs and jrpgs and the cast of characters is very important to me. Do ya at least get some cool monsters in your team eventually?

it is childish.. people will bash you and say "omg you have no self confidence cuz you don't want to be seen playing this childish game" but the fact is childish games aren't fun...

It's kind of why ii don't watch nick jr anymore.. I'm no longer interested..

you would be wise to never purchase this game..

Still trolling I see.
Aren't you supposed to be having wet dreams of Hope or Motomu Toriyama?

I thought he was still supposed to be organizing the bargain bin and stacking the last 2 FF's they made in a neat and orderly fashion ( =

XIII-2 and vanilla XIV?
I enjoyed XIII and XIII-2 enough (but among my least favorites in the series), but vanilla XIV was trash.
I have high hopes for XIV: ARR though as I played XI for 5+ years, and Naoki Yoshida is a better director/producer than Toriyama will ever be.

clearly this game isnt for you. why dont you go play final fantasy 13 instead?
surely that cast is badass enough.

main character is named LIGHTNING, surely that is pretty tough.

also, The new devil may cry is so edgy i cut myself on it. go play that.

If a game's bad it's bad. FF13 was terrible. And like I said I'm not knocking this game. To judge without playing would be stupid, however, I don't see the appeal of playing as a little boy in what looks like your basic jrpg affair.

Go and play Valkyria Chronicles since we all know that isn't a terrible game

Already beat that one. Loved it!

I bet all of the people complaining about this game being 'too childish' also hate Pixar movies for being too childish. Children's media are Blues Clues, Dora the Explorer, Dr. Seuss, South Park (lolIkid), Vege Tales, etc.

It just so happens media exists that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, children and adults, because they charm and enchant and have a subject that can be enjoyed by young and old. Ni No Kuni is part of that. And I'll go ahead and mention Miyazaki movies, since the link between them should be obvious.

Surprising, I know.

How is the character design "generic"? Ghibli has a pretty distinct visual style and they don't exactly do many video games. Ghibli's visual design is actually a big draw for this game.

Or are you confusing "generic" with "normal"? Because he's not meant to be some over the top JRPG protagonist, he's just a kid who finds his way into an alternate world.

Hahaha another one of these this game/character is too childish topics...... If you have an issue just post in the older topics rather than create another useless topic that isn't constructive at all.

So if Barbie pony island adventure came out and was hailed by everyone as an amazing must have game, would you play it and be okay with the fact that the main character is a girls childhood idol? EVEN IF the game was overall really good? If y'all are okay playing as a small child for a massive game more power to ya, but I can't bring myself to do that.

Hahaha I have nothing else to say to people like you who feel insecure about playing as a child character in a game that is being done by two companies who are well known for have child protagonists. If you don't like the game for that reason complain all you want and then go do something else. We don't need anymore of these kinds of topics already

this, you are obviously too imature and insecure to enjoy good games.
your loss.

Just letting you know, I enjoy all types of games, maybe it's more the plain generic character design that is throwing me off. And I've played games where you are a kid, it's just that in this particular case the child you play as just looks super generic. I'm also absolutely positive I've played many of the same games you have and have enjoyed them as well, maybe even more. I can see why people might like this game, and I'm not bashing those that like what they see, but it seems as though the "immature" thing to do would be to bash someone who has a different opinion.

now you are changing your argument... first he was considered too kiddy, now he is too generic?

i wont argue with younabout oliver being on the bland side, that was by design to emphasize the fact that he is a mere simple, unassuming boy. he is supposed to be kinda plain.

similar designphilosphy was used in earthbound's own Ness and again with Lucas in mother 3. level 5 has a tremondous art team... its safe to say they know what they are doing.

Why are we trying to convince someone who is so narrow minded to begin with? The TC obviously doesnt like Studio Ghibli films. I would not be surprised if they dont know what Studio Ghibli is at this point...They dont have some of the same tastes as us to begin with. These are the type of alpha males who have a false barrier up and think its "cool" to play as badasses. Ill have you know buddy, I used to be an alpha male too TC....I will have you know that the ladies like a guy with a bit more to them like an actual sense of taste or a soft side and an open mind (=
This games art style is awesome. I actually wish they made more cell shaded looking games like this. If you also think about it, these games are timeless meaning they will look a whole hell of a lot better in a couple years when they age as opposed to your typical Call of Duty's that use **** graphics and colors. ^_^ ----> im done

That's just my opinion. Gonna keep bashing me cuz I don't agree with you? ;) I do however LOVE the graphics in general, very nice.

homestly, i never liked a single ghibli film...

a crime i know, but i find the movies to be terribly pretentious and overly long.

that being said though, i really like this game.

The only thing I'm "bashing" is your insistence on calling it "childish", because that's simply inaccurate. Whether you actually like it I couldn't care less.

I'm not as narrow minded as you think. Just don't like the character design. For me it detracts from the experience. I do however agree 100% with everything else you said.
