Said some battles are impossible. Whined about the battle system instead of trying to learn. General nitpicks like that.

Sazh - Racist caricature and worst FF character ever. Don't agree ? Your problem.

If you read the review, instead of the number attached, it is actually pretty accurate.

I'd guess your friend doesn't like random encounters in his RPGs or dungeons with limited save opportunities. The save situation in dungeons was a little unfair though; I have seen a save spot before every boss battle so far and that has to be enough for a dungeon in my book.

Ok so I am gonna throw my 2 cents out their. I am someone who has played any rpg I can get my hands on for the past 20 years and I know a good rpg from a bad one.

The key cons from the review
-Bland Story
-Bland Characters
-Lopsided boss fights
-random encounters
-Game Difficulty
- Save point scarcity

Bland Story
First off this irritated me, the reviewer failed to really flesh out why the story did not grab them. Story is amazing, I love it, and as far as JRpgs' go its top notch. I believe part of this is due to the fact that the main character isnt the typical Protagonist of a jrpg the lonely warrior with the tormented past or w/e. It is a boy who truly cares for all and that is why he is set apart. I cant go in depth on this one cause I dont want to spoil.

Bland Characters
REALLY! This part was when I refused to believe she even completed the game. So many characters are vastly different near the end of game from the beggining and this isnt a instant process, they DEVELOP. And character development is a key point in keeping gamers involved with their characters.

Lopsided boss fights
Not at all. Boss Fights in this game after the first 5 or 6 require you to play smart. You can no longer select attack and expect things to go your way. You need to position and you need to be aware of weaknesses and bosses abilities. Once you figure these out it is merely a game of chess and who makes the right move when. So this was as far from the truth as possible, this is a problem though in the current generation of RPGs boss fights have become so simplistic , attack, attack, skill, heal - rinse, repeat, WIN!

-random encounters
Yes when you get to a new area enemies will chase but only about 25% are fast enough to catch up to you, and once you reach a certain level they will likely run, so while it isnt as tragic as she made it out to be I can see this one as a minor frustration, thats right I am not blasting the review entirely!

-game difficulty
........This is when I put my head down in shame at what my generation has become. We feel our game endings should be an easy treck. NO! Dying sucks, but it is part of learning the enemies, the fights and how to press forward. HOWEVER in my honest opinion she failed horribly, I went through the whole game and died twice, once at the beggining when I was gunghoe after entering new area....screw you bannana man... and 2nd time was a later boss fight when I was trying to learn the bosses skills. I hate to make the relation but like pokemon you have to build a team that works off each other, if you do that then regular encounters wont be a problem if you have a decent thought process in ya. oh also....their is an easy mode...

-Save points
overworld map, save anywhere. Dungeouns I can only recall 2 areas that took me more then 3 minutes to backtrack or press forward to nearest save point....laziness.

Don't care what the GI defenders say, that review was crap. When you review a game you review it based on what type of genre it is. It is an Rpg and above that a JRpg. I loved Tales of Graces with a passion (Huge Tales fan) BUT NO WAY IN HELL does it deserve a higher score then this masterpeice.

Sry for rant if you have specific questions send me a message, was stained overseas when this came out bought it on a wim, and haven't turned back, even bought localized version.

Just to play Devils Advocate... None of those are facts. They are opinions. People are allowed to think a game being tough is a bad thing, while some people want challenge... Not everyone wants to be frustrated beyond belief. Same goes for the combat, the story and the characters. What you love and adore, might not be the same for everyone else.

So while you and I might not agree with said reviews... They are opinions and unless they just flat out lie about something, you can't fault them for expressing how they feel about something... Not matter how much you disagree.

Everyone always says they don't read mag reviews, or that they're always crap, and yet...so many topics about critic reviews.

Seems like a lot of people care what Kimberly Wallace has to say, whether they agree with her assessment or not.
