Currently, yes. Of all time, not even close. But SE is likely to wake up after the success of games like this one and stop with the whole Lightning Returns and the All the Bravest (or all the money) crap they've been working on. They really need to cut the crap and the fans have got to stop supporting games like those.
Yeah, but they're making a lot of money from the sheep regardless, then they'll keep doing stuff like this... while we have to keep dreaming of quality games like the past.
Not to say the current JRPG's (well FF's to be specific) are super extremely terrifyingly terrible, but it's not even close to what it used to be. :/
The new final fantasy games aren't that bad. You just need to expand your view of the genre, and what is quality. FFXIII was a quality game with eye-porn graphics and an amazing soundtrack. If you wanna grind through lots of mobs, there are a lot of ways you can do so. Don't hate a quality game just cause you don't like the battle system or linearity.
Wow really Official Swinub of Pokemon X and Y boards
Historically Square and Enix were both amazing companies. then you know this happened
then they made kingdom hearts and that was awesome... then a few stinkers
also the bouncer was just awful. That said not every game they released has been bad over the last few years, I generally enjoyed The last remnant. FFXIII was just terrible as was its sequel, FFXIV was actually recalled and versus XIII is the reason we don't have a kingdom hearts 3.
Where as Level 5 had dark cloud and dc2 which were awesome they did a few okay psp titles like jeanne d'arc then there was the highly successful prof layton series. Finally WKC and NNK.
So.. you know a few solid titles versus an array of games ranging from horrid to amazing. I feel more confident buying a level 5 title than a square title at this point.

I agree, at this point I'll buy a Level 5 game almost without hesitation. That's the way it used to be with Squaresoft, but after the merger it's gone downhill. I'm really not sure how a merger of two of the greatest RPG companies could have had such dismal results.
I cannot think of a single RPG squenix have produced since the merger that I would consider anywhere near classic status. FFXII was decent, but I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. FFXIII was a slap in the face for fans. I'm not adverse to change, I gave it a chance, but the game literally made me depressed.
I will give them credit for the FFT PSP edition, Just Cause 2, and especially Deus Ex Human Revolution. DE: HR in particular was fantastic IMO. But in terms of RPGs, my future expectations are very low at the moment. I just hope they listen to the fans for FFXV, but I think they'll probably pull another Capcom and continue to denigrate their own legacy.
Right now, yeah Level-5's games have been much better quality-wise.
Since 2007, the only decent thing that they've brought to the US has been Dream Drop Distance (maybe Theatrythm...). 3rd Birthday was mediocre, Dissidia was awful, Final Fantasy XIII was terrible, Final Fantasy XIV was the most epic disaster in MMO history, and All the Bravest is so impossibly horrible, it's actually insulting, and it makes me fear for the future of gaming as a whole...
So yeah, I'd take Level-5 any day of the week.

Just to note, SE only distributed Just Cause 2, and they were only the publisher for Deus Ex, they were developed by Avalanche and Eidos respectively, SE wasn't involved.
