I've read this whole thread since I got interested in getting the "best" familiars out there on my first playthrough. Really good job on the spreadsheet! I used the advanced version to find out who is the best magic user/fighter/tank for each character, it really worked well!

I'm also sad to hear, and understand why people feel obliterated because of the randomness in the stats, I hate it too. When it comes to the character levels, I'm not gonna start loading my game over and over again, I have kind of "accepted" that I can get potentially worse/better stats than someone else have in their playthroughs. reason why I'm "accepting" this is:

A: It's too time consuming and takes away the fun from the game to reload over and over at every level, especially if your'e gonna do it with all characters. I guess randomness was kind of "meant to be" in this game. We also don't know if the stat range differs if you have leveled Oliver in "certain way" earlier. i.e. If you chose a stat distribution on lvl 17 that mostly increases HP and MP, does the game allow for instance lvl 24 stats to give as much HP and MP on that specific level if you chose earlier to have High HP and MP, or does the stats just "even out with some standard.

B: I think the familiar's are the main thing to use in battle, not the players. (Altho it's a bit sad that HP and MP are still 100% linked with your familiars)

Well, anyways. I'm still going with a set of familiar's that have higher stats in the spreadsheet because while 2 same familiars might be different when maxed I guess they still should have their stats aligned so that they kind of "fill the specific role" you wanted them to fill. I don't think Catastroceros will ever have a stat distribution that differs by more than max 10% here and there from what it has in the spreadsheet. Like it suddenly having 100 P.Atk and 490 M.Atk instead. Also Seed Sprite will probably always be a good choice for a caster Familiar with the high movement speed and M.Atk.

Last note, movement speed and atk speed seems to be 100% fixed, so if you're unsure how you're stats will end up, atleast if you choose a fast moving and attacking familiar like Naja you'll never "lose" that.

I'm a perfectionist when it comes to RPGs, I always wanna make a "perfect save" and for me in this game it's enough to know that I made good picks as in what familiar deals dmg what heals and with whom....

A. True, its time consuming and no fun, but so far, after some testing, it seems that the random stats are always identical at the same lvls.

B. well for that reason i do reloads. More mp means more tricks, more hp means you can take more hits.

My final stats for Oliver/Esther/Swaine without manipulating level up stats:
*note: the (+/- #) is the stats when compared to the values in the guide.

Oliver Lv.99
516 HP(-10) ------------- 328 MP(+3)
196 ATK(-1) ----------- 238 DEF(+1)
314 MATK(-1) ----------- 291 MDEF(-6)
263 ACC(-6) ----------- 223 EVA(-5)
Lv.99 gave him +11 HP,+11 MP,+10 ATK,+11 DEF,+13MATK,+12 MDEF,+12 ACC, +11 EVA

Esther Lv.99
399 HP(-10) ------------- 266 MP(+2)
168 ATK(+2) ----------- 267 DEF(-6)
246 MATK(-3) ----------- 265 MDEF(-1)
329 ACC ----------- 347 EVA(+5)
Lv.99 gave her +14 HP,+20 MP,+15 ATK,+18 DEF,+15 MATK,+16 MDEF,+16 ACC, +20 EVA

Swaine Lv.99
604 HP(+4) ------------- 201 MP(-12)
255 ATK(-4) ----------- 338 DEF(+5)
164 MATK(+4) ----------- 200 MDEF(-8)
371 ACC(+3) ----------- 279 EVA(-1)
Lv.99 gave him +14 HP,+10 MP,+14 ATK,+19 DEF,+16 MATK,+12 MDEF,+17 ACC, +18 EVA

I didn't really get good results though since I had so many penalties.
I'm going to see if I can manipulate the stats added at lv.99. If I can't then it might mean that Lv.99 just corrects for the random gains per level compared to pre-determined randomized stat caps from the start.
--------------------------------------------------------------
My second/third attempts pretty much proves the cap isn't preset. +20 seems like the cap on each stat per level.

Oliver Lv.99
515 HP(-11) --- 333 MP(+5) // 525 HP(-1) --- 336 MP(+8)
202 ATK(+5) --- 246 DEF(+9) // 206 ATK(+9) --- 240 DEF(+3)
312 MATK(-3) --- 291 MDEF(-6) // 317 MATK(+2) --- 296 MDEF(-1)
271 ACC(+2) --- 224 EVA(-4) // 269 ACC --- 232 EVA(+4)

Esther Lv.99
400 HP(-9) --- 256 MP(-8) // 402 HP(-7) --- 256 MP(-8)
165 ATK(-1) --- 266 DEF(-7) // 168 ATK(+2) --- 259 DEF(-14)
242 MATK(-7) --- 265 MDEF(-1) // 241 MATK(-8) --- 264 MDEF(-2)
324 ACC(-5) --- 343 EVA(+1) // 323 ACC(-6) --- 338 EVA(-4)

Swaine Lv.99
614 HP(+14) --- 211 MP(-2) // 600 HP --- 211 MP(-2)
257 ATK(-2) --- 334 DEF(+1) // 256 ATK(-3) --- 337 DEF(+4)
168 MATK(+8) --- 208 MDEF // 167 MATK(+7) --- 205 MDEF(-3)
372 ACC(+4) --- 272 EVA(-8) // 373 ACC(+5) --- 276 EVA(-4)

Excuse my ignorance, have read most this thread.
For example on Nightcap, when it is listed as the best overall stat wise and then Duncecap is also in the list. Does this mean max out Nightcap? Some familiars I have played will reach a level and then say 'reached max level' and I'm guessing they will not progress any further. Is this not the same for Nightcap?

Thanks
