That's it. I'm done.

Just got to Hamelin and the AI is so ******* terrible, I just cannot play this game anymore. Normally I can deal with stuff like this, but I cannot believe how poorly designed the games combat is. It really sucks, because other than this I've really but enjoying the game. But here, let me give you an example:
Keep ind mind, Esther is set to healing, swaine is set to not use abilities. Esther has 68 mp, and swaine has 45
I walk out of Hamelin and....
Battle #1: Esther uses 30 mp, Swaine uses 15
Battle #2: Esther uses another 22 mp and still gets killed. Swaine uses 10 more
Battle #3: Esther uses the remainder of her mp, gets killed again. Swaine uses another 15 mp.

How the hell am I supposed to get anywhere when I can't get 20 steps out of ******* town without running out of mp. It's absolutely ridiculous. I know level 5 have designed many RPGs before, but its almost like the designers of this game have never even played a ******* RPG before. What a waste.

Im in exactly the same situation as you. The AI Is just driving me crazy on mp control and evading enemy attacks. I feel as all the weight is on the players shoulders. I mean i know the player is supposed switch here so they should have put more emphasize on a single player based game instead of a team. This is broken team based game. Its realy to bad because the rest of the game good is realy even the gameplay is good(aside from the AI)

I've never once had to change tactics in battle, and I'm not kidding. I haven't had any problems either, I'm just a few events passed Hamelin as well. I'm assuming it's because I've over leveled I guess but meh.

not sure if your there but at one point you get to press triangle to focus on attacking and square to focus everyone on defense.

So if your talking about when a boss is charging up a move and your the only one defending pressing square puts the other 2 in defense mode.

i believe i'm in the same boat as you. i haven't gotten a ship yet and oliver is already at level 29 >_>

...i went on a familiar grinding binge.

got angry at myself when i realized i leveled esther's drongo prematurely. i didn't wait for it to hit its level cap. so to make amends to myself, i decided that none of my familiar's will get to their second form until they hit their cap.

and i just kept on fighting and fighting and fighting...

Exactly. Want Esther to stop using those mana-sucking moves? Unequip them from her familiar until you want them in a battle. There's a reason why the game lets you do this. It's like the Tales series. Just disable the moves you don't want her using.

Yes, all you're doing is covering up the flaw in the AI.

You SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THIS. Tales games don't force you to equip or unequip abilities, just disable the AI from using them if you don't want to - and you can change this on the fly at any time, including DURING BATTLE. Characters in Tales games also don't have a limited set of abilities available to them (only 1-4 slots for tricks on familiars).

Fact is, if you're playing through the game and enemies are running from you - you are overleveled. If you aren't overleveled the AI turns combat into a nightmare.

the AI is most definitely lacking. and you're right, if not micromanaged correctly it can be ridiculously annoying when dealing with a tough opponent. i can't tell you how many times esther's drongo healed itself even when it only lost like 20 hp. ugh. just unlocked the 2nd tier heal spell for it and that's all it does when it gets hit a few times.

i really wish it had a more in depth tactics menu (a la gambit system in ff12) and i wish you could change tactics OUTSIDE of battle.

Every RPG needs gambits.

To everyone saying to equip low Mp skills and a good physical attacker u are forgetting that u cant unequip Esther's skills. She spams her damn 15 Mp songs over and over until she's out of Mp, even when set on keep us healthy. Not to mention just attacking with her harp regardless of the strong physical attack familiar equipped.

The game is easy and its not about having trouble. Its just frustrating to have to deal with such horrible AI. There is just no excuse for it.
