Finally finished the story, best jrpg I've played in awhile, but... **SPOILERS**

I really didn't like how the White Witch took a backseat in the plot the ENTIRE game. It just seems weird that in a game entitled "Wrath of the White Witch" that the White Witch only manages to become a threat in the last three to five hours of a fifty hour story. I mean why not just call it "Wrath of the Dark Djinn".

It's not so much the fact that she was the main villain in the end that bugs me. so much as the fact that the heroes weren't even aware she existed until after Shadar. Like us as the players got to watch the White Witch pull all the strings, but it seemed weird that the heroes never even found out until the VERY end. I also thought the ending was very anticlimatic.

"Oh hey I tried to kill the entire world with manna, but I'm good now, I'll make amends somehow!"

*flies away on dragon, no ending cutscene or animation, credits roll*

However other than these few complaints about the last hour or so of the main game, Ni No Kuni was downright amazing. The music, the art style, the battle system. It was awesome.

Well that's probably because she wasn't even in the DS version and was added specifically for the PS3 version. I felt she did add to the overall story, but it was kind of obvious that the game originally ended after beating Shadar.

Ah well that explains a lot then, I never played the original on the DS.

Still wish they could've made her ending a little more climatic though. It just seems so weak compared to Shadar, who of course got a proper ending which obviously was the original intent.

This game and the DS one were developed at the same time and I think that's part of the issue. They didn't have room for everything in the DS game, but didn't want those customers to feel like the story was incomplete after beating shadar. Unfortunately, that means the WW end up feeling like an addition rather than a continuation to some people.

Personally, I've read plenty of books and watched movies, where the protagonist is unaware of the actual antagonist until towards the end. So it didn't really bother me. It would have been far worse if the WW came out of no where with no behind the scenes action presented to the viewer.

Honestly I just wish the post-game had been a real post-game. If I could have gone around and explored the world in the aftermath of that ending I wouldn't have minded that it was a little abrupt and anti-climatic.

Yeah I agree, you finish the game proper and after the amazing non-ending that you got after Shadar's castle, the true ending just feels... Rushed. I do hear there's something else in the post game content though, I just won't be able to do it until my second play through with better familiars (just got the ship)
