'bad familiar' run

#1ninplayerPosted 2/11/2013 8:51:44 PM
What are statistically the worst overall familiars? Minus the starters. I already did my run where I got the best ones, I want to play through the game with the worst ones. I imagine stuff like the little fire guy in Mount Smokey that throws rocks is awful. (I used him for a bit until I could get Purrloiner and stuff)

Go to this thread:

Get the familiar spreadsheet. Then just find familiars with exceptionally low stats.

That said, some of the lower ones may be "stat specialists" that actually are reasonably high in a single stat.

That itself could make for an interesting run though. Say, you have a familiar thats crap except for attack, and one that is crap except for defense, and you have to juggle between the two with very high frequency.

True. I was thinking more along the line of finding low overall stats, but the spreadsheet doesn't take into account useful bits of information like skills and such.

Late bloomers actually have good stats as well, but are usually terrible throughout the main story since it takes awhile to develop, so it might be an interesting challenge to only use late bloomers (Bone Baron, Hierophant/Triumphant, Petramander/Pyromander, Honky-Tonker, Madcap/Nightcap).

Either way, keep your Mite around, since apparently he ranks somewhere around 5th or 6th worst in terms of stats.

Hmm, while not a bad-familiar-run per se, what about a NO-familiar run? Make everyone use their own bodies. As the characters tend to have lower defenses then many familiars, I dare say it should be challenging enough.

A no familiar run would just be tedious, given it would mostly be Oliver solo, since Esther and Swaine's stats suck. Random battles would consist of kiting and whittling away at each enemies health individually until Oliver gets AOE spells near the end.

You could also do a no metamorphosis run (except the forced metamorphosis). Then the only way to access Tier 3 familiars (the ones you can tame) would be to capture them.

The lowest overall stat familiars are...

Ruff
Little Bighorn
Baatender
Inphant
Bonehead
Rhinosaur
Hurly
Green Buncher
Sunshine
Danglerfish

Ruff being the worst overall.

As for final form worst then...

Cap'n Zombo
Steam-Man
Beam-Man
Hymnpaler
Mermite
Dynamite
Manglerfish
Spanglerfish
Fluorongo
Electrongo

Some of these may be really good though in one area and very weak in the rest.

Honestly I think a simple No Equipment run would create most of the challenge you're looking for without the tedium of No Familiars or a specific, limited pool of familiars.

All Babana Bunchers still rox tho. Something fun + themed like that would be the other good way to go.
