Its orb picked up by character controlled (I picked up orbs like 99% as familiar), not AI's. That's all there is to it. The merit skill that pickups remaining orbs on the field at the end of battles is a godsend (need asap). Takes awhile to get but its easy at least. Be patient.
edit: Dont doubt masterll
But in that case I'm certain I ought to have well over 2000. I've been doing tons of battles (I'm probably at about 1500 or more by now), and I'm sure I've been getting an average of over two player-controlled glims per battle. --- http://myanimelist.net/animelist/kunino-sagiri

I feel the same way TC, but bottom line, it takes a long time to get this thing. Even if you feel as though you should have it. I got the 1000 battles trophy at about 20 hours in while I was still solo with Oliver, so EVERY glim I picked up was by a player controlled character, and yet I STILL didn't get the trophy until about 63 hours into my playthrough. --- I sometimes feel as though life is a curse that has been placed on the living. Got Glim Reaper at around 65 hours. :)

I always thought the glims wouldn't count unless they actually healed you or refilled your MP. With that one auto collect merit and using Earsplitter when farming tokos I would kill everything in one go and always get 3-5 glims, but it still took till way late in post game to get it :( --- "Plan ahead, bring a machete"

See, I was actually thinking that too.
...until I got the trophy after picking up a glim when I was at full health and MP. --- I sometimes feel as though life is a curse that has been placed on the living. I envy the unborn at times.

I can't help but think that it only counts glims that actually add points - ie, not 0

I got the Trophy while I was getting to Level 99 next to Perdida, farming Tokotokos. Just run after all the glims close by before they disappear in battle.
