Is this anything like Dragon Quest VIII

I hear it has alchemy and a casino. Got me thinking about Dragon Quest VIII. I love that game. If this is anything like it I'll have to play it.

It's got a lot of similarities to DQVIII, but DQVIII does most things better.

It's like it, but also not like it

But unlike DQVIII, I'm actually enjoying this

DQVIII is also the eighth (kinda) game in the DQ series and Ni no Kuni is well... the first

If you like the dragon quest series pretty sure you will also like ni no kuni. For one ni no kuni is not on a tiny screen and has beautiful art.

That being said it definitely can use some polishing in terms of simple game mechanics so just don't set your bar too high in that regard.

I prefer DQVIII. I find it more charming overall.

The only thing I prefer Ni No Kuni over DQVIII is the fact that you see the enemies in the open map and you "decide" who to fight and when especially when you are overleveled. I'm not a big fan of DQVIII random battles, also the fact that you can "auto-grind" if you have a turbo controller makes the game ridiculously exploitable, that is for me a big discouragement.

Jessica's Boobs are better then any art in NNK.

DQVIII is a superior game to this. It's more of a regular RPG. Not a monster training game. And DQVIII is not on a tiny screen...

Yes. As a huge fan of DQ8, I was delighted to find that Ni no Kuni is basically the second coming of DQ8. It is very similar in overall game design, and it's even better in certain ways. If you're a fan of DQ8, get excited and get Ni no Kuni.

if you get the formula for dragon quest, mix it a lil with a dash of dark cloud 2 (dark chronicles) add a few new elements... that's ni no kuni.

if you liked this recipe then you will like ni no kuni.

Aside from the combat, it is very similar to Dragon Quest IX and VIII.
