| Neeky Posted 4/26/2008 5:34:51 PM | I tried my hardest to not consult an FAQ for this game, but now I had to, and none helped. Currently I'm at the Slaughterhouse, having travelled through the East Wing section, collecting the first photo, and now anything else I do now leads to a game-stopping trap (walk across the raised gate and can't walk back... Or worse, getting stuck in the save room behind an electric barrier with no way to escape) But now I find out there's 3 paths to complete in supposedly any order, and the FAQ's seem to mention visiting the East Wing last. I had no idea, and went there first, and now Double H is nowhere to be found, leaving Jade without anyone to assist. Am I missing something, or is it time to reset and start a new game (or best yet, move on to play something else entirely)? | ||
| Race Posted 4/27/2008 1:47:30 AM | I'm afraid that you've hit the dreaded lost partner bug, for which the only solution is to reload a previous save game from before your partner disappeared. Hopefully you have been saving often and in multiple slots. | ||
| Neeky Posted 4/30/2008 7:29:11 PM | Thank you for the reply. At least it wasn't 100% my fault! I did have 2 different saves, but unfortunately both were after acquiring the East Wing picture. One at the Surveillance Room (not so bad), the other at the save point behind that electrical barrier (less than good). I grudgingly decided to start a new game, and after a few minutes, started enjoying it again, so I went ahead and continued on. I made it past the 3 wings in the slaughterhouse now (In the Trolley>North>East order). But now I'm wondering. Maybe the glitch happened because I didn't talk to Double H before dropping down from the catwalk in that laser one-hit death room? This time I made very sure to talk to him every time I entered that room (which was often considering how often the laser spotted me). This time I am taking advantage of all 5 save slots. Learning a lesson here! | ||
| Race Posted 5/1/2008 3:30:33 AM | Not 100% your fault? Try 0%! I've never known of any specific reason for the glitch or how to prevent it from happening. For example, one time I emerged from the hovercraft and my partner was just gone. I played the game lots of times before I experienced the glitch for myself, but some people get hit by it on their very first play through. Some like you decide to take it as a chance to restart the game, play better, and even enjoy it more. Some others got much further along in the game before hitting the glitch and were so frustrated that they announced their intent to never play again. For the latter group, I say it's kind of their own fault if they've been gaming for a while - they should know better. It rarely can hurt you to save often, but experiencing something like losing power after a 5+ hour gaming marathon (whether it's neighborhood-wide or because someone tripped on a power cord) while saving minimally or not at all is a lesson that I think should only need to be learned once! | ||

'Beyond Good and Evil' is good enough that restarting due to a glitch is not a chore. Its game mechanics and world were so different that I restarted after a few days just because I knew I'd missed so much due to the unfamiliarity. It sucked me right back into the story, only better because now I could appreciate it more. Let us know how it goes. Maybe we can use your experience to encourage others who get stuck due to a glitch. | ||
| Neeky Posted 5/12/2008 5:49:39 PM | My update... I finally beat the game a few days ago, missed 2 pearls and 1 creature, though, so I started a 3rd game to try and collect everything possible. That I did, and found that last animal, so I flew back to Hillys and saved the game to try that 'Yo Pearl' game. I think I hit the bug again though (probably from flying back to Hillys instead of to the moon after finding the last animal). But I didn't even notice Double H was missing again until just today when I flew to the lunar transmitter. No worries though, that will be my Yo Pearl practice and high score save. And now I wouldn't mind starting yet another new game, if only to reduce my play time (currently at 11 hours), and get a better internet ranking. | ||
| greybeard Posted 5/14/2008 6:17:47 AM | I did the Slaughter Houses last night and thankfully didn't run into any glitch like that. I had started the first wing but initially I didn't spot the way to get past the electrical barrier/guard. I assumed there would be some link with one of the other routes so I ended up doing the East Wing first. Only glitch I did have was H not responding to the Super Action command in one of the photography areas. He wasn't near the guards or being stunned by grenades he was just walking around with his helmet on not fighting while Jade was having to take on all three. Redid that section after Jade was killed and there was no trouble, H behaved as he was meant to. | ||

| WtR_Flash Posted 5/15/2008 9:18:03 PM | Urgh. I got trapped by that glitch in the home stretch, 10 minutes from the beginning of the end. Lucky me that I saved in a seperate slot before going into the last leg, I only had to do a little over. From time to time (read: often), I get skipping music/sound effects too. Jesus Ubi, if you guys do your customers one favor only for the sequel, get better bug testers. Or pay them more. | ||
| TurquoiseWolf Posted 5/28/2008 7:25:04 PM | Aww man, after one playthrough of this glitch happening at the slaughterhouse. I started a new game, got farther, and it happened at what I assume is just about the end (the moon). Argh, forget it, I'm done with this game, beat it before anyway, but this is just stupid. *sigh* Guess I'll just have to wait for #2! |
