| Shinkada MKII Posted 1/25/2008 6:47:04 AM message detail | Okay, lots of people seem to be mis-using the Exceed system. So I'm going to explain it. I'm no Sage, but I know how the Exceed system works, so let's go at it. The Exceed System coats Nero's weapon in a flammable liquid when it's charged. When charged, moves will become stronger, faster, and some will have changed properties. First, though, let's look at how to charge it. There are two ways: 1: Standard Charge. By pressing LT at any time, you can charge the Red Queen. You should hold the button for long enough to get a good charge, but not long enough for it to slow down too much, to get the most out of the presses. Each charge should charge approximately 40% of a gauge. It takes 7-8 charges to charge the weapon all the way to Lv3 in this method. 2: Action Charge. The other way, and the far lesser-known way, is to hit LT EXACTLY as your sword hits an enemy. It doesn't matter what attack. Hitting LT at the EXACT right time will get you a single Charge level. The timing is very strict. Like, Fighting Game strict. 10 frames, TOPS. Probably less. That's 1/6th of a second for you non-fighting-game players. Each time you attack, no matter what the attack is or whether it hits or not, you lose 1 gauge. This means you get 3 attacks per charge, right? Kind of. Using the 'Action Charge' as I've nicknamed it, you could, theoretically, keep the charge at Lv3 100% of the time. The timing for this would be absolutely bloody hard... But it IS impossible. Now. Moves. It seems to me that the stronger the move, the more the Exceed system changes it. The main moves that are changed are: - High Roller (Nero's equivalent of High Time, Lock On, Direction Away From Enemy +Y. His launcher.) High Roller now makes the screen slow down a bit on connect as a fancy visual. On top of doing much more damage, it has slightly more range, and will auto-launch anything that can be launched. Obviously it won't launch bosses, but when charged it will always launch Ice Demons and anything else with semi-super-armour (assumably). - Helm Splitter (Or whatever it's called. Lock On, Direction Towards Enemy + Y in Air.) When Charged, Helm Splitter gains more range, more damage, and upon hitting the ground, effects a small area rather than just one enemy. - Streak (Nero's charge/thrust attack. Lock On, Direction Towards Enemy + Y) Probably the biggest change is Streak. When Streak is charged, its range is dramatically increased, as is its damage. It automatically knocks back anything that can be knocked back, similar to the changes to High Roller. This is probably the best move to use when you have some Charge, except the option below. You can also hold down Y at the beginning to hold it. I'm not sure if this makes it do more damage, or if it's simply useful for waiting until an enemy is in range or catching them after a fall. High Roller, Helm Splitter then Streak from Lv3 charge is an extremely strong combo. I fear to see what would happen to this combo's damage with Nero's DT active, I really do. - Basic Combos. Now, the basic combos don't change much from the Exceed system, but they do change. They become slightly more powerful, get a tiny bit more range, but most importantly, they become very, very fast. If you can time the 'Action Charge' to hit on every attack, Nero's basic combo would become an utter powerhouse. I hope this helps a few people find Nero much more interesting than initial impressions. Once you start trying to get Action Charges into regular combos he becomes a hell of a lot more interesting. --- Shinkada, Aesir of the Holy Order and Anti-Dragon Tactician. |

| MunkehluvsJelly Posted 1/25/2008 7:21:06 AM message detail | its worth mentioning (so far as ive tried anyway) you cant JC a reve helm splitter, if anyone has, tell me, cause i cant do it yet --- GT: NECROMANIACAL |
| Shinkada MKII Posted 1/25/2008 7:37:30 AM message detail | XD JC, nice term. I dunno about 'JC'ing/ActionCharging command inputs. I had some trouble trying to JC Streak, and I can't remember if I managed to pull it off or not. It could just be that these wide-sweep moves have tough input times, or it could be that 'special'/direction moves can't be JC'd. I'll test it out shortly. Until then, I'll just assume you can only JC basic attacks. Oh, and thanks to all those who said it was useful. :B --- Shinkada, Aesir of the Holy Order and Anti-Dragon Tactician. |

| Arkensark Posted 1/25/2008 9:50:07 AM message detail | Ah hah, I was wondering why when I used up all 3 charges then spammed the left trigger I got an extra charge at the end. I just assumed that it was from having all 3 charges and keeping the revs maxed out so you could like quickly gain another one after using one. I had no idea how to properly use it. Thanks so much. --- Chop off your arm.....is it only arm damage? or is it damage to YOU? - Lunaredge |
