Far Cry 2
I think I love this game, it's so fun and immersive.

Every single enemy encounter has some cinematic quality to it that I just can't really explain all that well, but it feels so fun. And I love the nonlinearity of the missions, you really have the ability to tackle missions however you want. And in regards to complaints about respawning enemies, I think people forget that you're not in friendly territory. You are not supposed to be there, doing what you're doing. It almost has a Fallout 3 like vibe where you're constantly in hostile territory. People always wonder why the game was called Far Cry 2 despite being very different from the first one in nearly every aspect, it's the thematical differences that relate them. In the first one you have to survive on this tropical island with crazy mutants and mercs everywhere, it's a far cry from normalcy. Far Cry 2 carries that thematic element over but replaces the tropical island with a war-torn African country. It's meant to be hostile and dangerous, you're playing as an intruder and I think people forget that. The travel and enemy respawns don't bug me, I think it makes it realistic and intense, and like I said, somewhat cinematic. Most immersion I've seen in any game, ever. Most of all, I love scoping out encampments and giving every merc a nickname like "pink shirt" or "vest dude". | Bistromathics Posted 8/17/2009 9:46:29 PM | ^ That's what I mean, there's so many ways to play things. Or like, the semi-randomness of the enemies makes the game feel kind of dynamic. Like a mission I had to do earlier, I got mad prepared but because of a detour I had to make I ended up almost running out of ammo which completely ruined my original gameplan. When I got to my objective I decided then, rather than stealth my way in, to throw a molotov at some gasoline and start a big fire, with all the enemies distracted I ran in and used the confusion to ambush them.
