Question about levels on arcade cabinet?

I have a Neo Geo MVS and Samurai Shodown (American Version) and at the bottom middle of the screen it says "Level-2" in the same text and font used to display how many credits you have. What is this level referring to. It doesn't change regardless of what I do in game, be it playing single player or versus?

Answer

The level is the difficulty setting of that game. Every Neo Geo game has the level setting; it's usually displayed but can be set to be hidden. The default is level 4, but can be set from level 1 (easiest) to level 8 (hardest).

Answer

The "Level" indicator shows the difficulty level selected in the soft dip settings for the game. The default level is usually 4, and most games offer levels from 1 (easiest) to 8 (hardest). Some games use 0 through 7, and in that case level 3 is the default.

You can change this, and other various game settings by pressing the "test" button on your cab and going in to "setting up the soft dip". If you have a UniBIOS soft dips can be accessed from the UniBIOS menu.
