Introduction: Metal slug is an arcade game. It is a side scrolling shooter. The game play is basic and the graphics are good. You can get new weapons and play as two characters.

Game play: 9/10
The game is pretty basic, you shoot enemies and if you rescue a P.O.W. (prisoner of war) they give new weapons. Some examples would be a laser, shotgun, rocket launcher and machine gun.

The controls are very east to memorize; you move the joystick to move, A is for shooting, B is for jumping, and C is for throwing bombs.
The only vehicle in this game is a tank known as a "metal slug" hence the name.

The game can be very fast at times; when hordes of soldiers ran at you and you have to shoot or slash your way through. The only slow part of the game is when you're fighting a boss. The boss level is very slow and you have to avoid the loads of ammo it unleashes at you. At the end of each level you get extra points if you rescued a P.O.W. as long as didn't die while trying to kill the boss.

Story: 2/10

They don't really tell you the story in the game. From playing it you can sort of know some of it. You play as Marco or Tarma and you kill the terrorist army.

Graphics: 9/10

The graphics are good, if you've ever seen the other games released in the same year you would probably see pixels. In metal slug the graphics are smooth.

Replay value: 8/10

This game has great amount of replay value. It never gets boring, well at least for me. You can try to kill the bosses faster, try to live as long as you can before you die and try to beat the game faster.

Overall: 9/10

Metal slug is fun and if you're playing for the first time I suggest you bring a lot of quarters. The bosses are hard if you're not use to playing it but once you're use to if you'll be hooked. I wouldn't suggest this to little kids because it is violent and there is blood in the game but if they're at least 10 or older it would probably be alright.
