Zombie Revenge

Review by J Lee

"Zombie Revenge: Resident Evil for the Arcades"

Zombie Revenge is Sega's arcade attempt at the "survival horror" genre. Zombie Revenge was first known as "Blood Bullet: House of the Dead side story" in Japan. The game features Resident evil styled play and graphics powered by the Naomi hardware and it seems that no expense is spared for detail.

The Game takes place in the same world as the House of the Dead games and centers around three agents searching for a man named Zed who is responsible for turning a thriving metropolis into a city of the dead.

First off, it can be said that the graphics are absolutely beautiful. Fine details such wisps of flame and flying butterflies can be clearly made out and it seems that the programmers are better at articulating facial features. The Game has a spooky and highly stylized look that is present in the other House of the Dead games. The game play is simple, just aim and shoot with your gun or use a punching combo. You can also pick up other weapons such as machine guns, grenades, and even a laser gun. Special combos can also be performed by inputing certain commands. I like the aiming system where your character locks onto the closest enemy and does more damage as you lock on longer. The only flaw of this game, and its a major one, is the controls and the steep learning curve. Control of your character is awkward and takes alot of time to adjust to. some of the martial arts attacks are hard to pull of since there is only one punch button and the shoot button must be used to chain attacks. i wish they could have dedicated two buttons for punching and kicking like in Die-Hard arcade. Overall Zombie revenge is alot of fun but needs work on the controls.
