Mortal Kombat ..... WOW.

The first time I played Mortal Kombat I was all like WTF. This is a fighting with digitized sprites like Pit Fighter, but you can actually kill your opponent, yes, KILL your opponent.

STORY: 500 years ago, the annual Shaolin Tournament, the most prestigious fighting tournament in the world, was interrupted by the appearance of an old sorcerer and a strange four-armed creature, who entered the tournament and defeated the Great Kung Lao. This Shokan warrior was the half-human, half-dragon fighter named Goro, who became the ultimate fighting champion for the next five hundred years. This was all part of Shang Tsung's plan to tip the balance into chaos and help Outworld conquer the Earth Realm.

Liu Kang would go to the tournament with the intent to restore balance. A martial artist/movie star Johnny Cage also entered the tournament and befriended Liu when a fight broke out between himself and Kano. Lin Kuei warrior Sub-Zero was invited to join the tournament by Shang Tsung himself, two years earlier after his ordeal with Shinnok's Amulet. The undead Shirai Ryu ninja Scorpion entered the tournament intending to kill Sub-Zero, believing Sub-Zero to be responsible for killing him. Raiden, the God of Thunder, was also asked personally by Shang Tsung himself, and Raiden himself boasted that "all those who would oppose Raiden would be crushed." He took the form of a human in order to participate in the tournament.

Kano, the Black Dragon's most diabolical thug, was being chased by a U.S. Special Forces Unit, led by Lt. Sonya Blade, when he managed to get onto the boat heading for the tournament; his goal in the tournament was to loot Shang Tsung's Palace. Once Sonya and her men arrived, Shang Tsung's personal army ambushed them. The Special Forces Unit was captured in the surprise attack, so Sonya had no choice but to take part in the tournament in order to save them. Thus the tournament was set.

GAMEPLAY: Like other fighting games before Mortal Kombat all you have to do is beat up the person in front of you for 2 or 3 rounds, just right after a voice says "FIGHT". Theres 12 matches and one bonus round, two of these fights has to be with the bosses. Yeah two bosses. But wait theres more, when your opponents life bar is almost about to turn from green to red DANGER pops out under the life bar(s) and one more hit and that voice says "FINISH HIM". Thats when you can perform your fighters Fatality and kill your opponent. SCORE: 8

CONTROLS: 5 buttons High Punch, Low Punch, High Kick, Low Kick, and Block. SCORE: 10

SOUND:
(voices) Each character in the game has the same exact voice, except for Sonya, Goro, and Shang Tsung. This games voices sound like they came from some of those chinese kung-fu movie where they go HIYA and WOO. But anyways the voices are okay. FIGHT, FINISH HIM, FATALITY, those are classic Shang Tsung phrases. Theres also crowd voices that go OOOOHHH, AHHHH, like if they saw something amazing. Score: 6

(music) The chinese style music goes good with every stage setting a dark and gloomy theme. Score: 8

(sfx) The sound effects are good and make sense making the game feel more realistic. Score:8

GRAPHICS: The graphics in this game are good. The digitized sprites where good and moved good. But the graphics started a controversy with this game. They said that Mortal Kombat is too real just because you could kill someone and that its too violent. I think this game is hilarious because of the violence. SCORE: 10

SCENARIO: There are a total of seven different backgrounds to fight on. 1. The Courtyard a stage where you fight outside where a crowd of monks watches you fight. 2. Palace Gates, again you fight outside but infront of a palace that has a buddha statue in front of the palace and two guards at each side. 3. Warrior Shrine is a place where you could see statues of the games fighters. 4. The Pit. My favorite stage because at the end of round two (or 3) you can uppercut your opponent of the stage and they fall and land on a bed of spikes. 5. The Throne Room is a place where you can fight in front of Shang Tsung. 6.Goro's lair is where you fight Goro and Shang Tsung. SCORE: 10

CHARACTERS: Mortal Kombat has 7 selectable characters and two bosses. Liu Kang a chinese monk/kung fu master, Johnny Cage a movie star as well as a kung fu master, Kano the leader of a notorious a gang known as the Black Dragon, Raiden agod who transformed himself so he can compete in the mortal kombat tournament, Scorpion. Scorpion is a ninja and some kind of hell spectre. Sub-Zero, a ninja that throws ice, Sonya is a member of the U.S. special forces unit. Goro is some kind of demon with 4 arms, Shang Tsung is a chinese ruler or whatever he is. He is the one who made this tournament. SCORE: 10

REPLAY: MORTAL KOMBAT is avery good game but it will piss you off easily because this game is hard. SCORE: 7
