Zupapa
Review by EngiTea
"Throwing midgets has never been so fun!"
Intro:
Zupapa! Is a pretty basic arcade game which can not really be found anymore due to lack of arcades, yet I could be wrong, but anyway. Zupapa! Is an amazing 2D game which can pretty much make anyone laugh with glee at the looks of it [If you have enough coins!]
Plot: None
The basic idea of Zupapa! Is to fight many world based monsters/enemies to clear the land and enable transportation to another part of the world. There eventually is a mean guy in a tuxedo who wishes to stop you, show him some midget power and eventually victory is yours, hurray hurray then you fly home etc...
Gameplay: 9
The gameplay in Zupapa! Is frankly AMAZING! Zupapa makes great use of the 2D areas by making sure there are plenty of enemies and ways to move around. But the main point of gameplay that is easy to notice is the Worlds themselves. There are around 10 Worlds to which you can conquer each having there own theme [Japan, Forest, Horror to name a few] and backgrounds.
Controls: 9
The controls in Zupapa are easy to use but can be quite frustrating when you are in a tight spot. Punching may be good but throwing Zukkas or as I call them "Midgets" can really save you some time. Controlling your character is simple, all you have to do is move the Joystick left and right and down and B so on so forth.
Graphics: 10
Graphics for a 2D game can be beaten by the 3D games on PS2 if you dont have an open mind, but still Zupapa! has great visual effects when it counts. If you use several midgets to defeat enemies a whirlwind of stars will destory the enemies, the good thing about that is that they sparkle! But the backgrounds of the game look like they were painted or drawn by some of the best artists in the world, all matching the World that you are in and also to give the area some atmosphere. The character models are very well done, it makes it hard to spot the pixels at all! Which is always an upside.
Sound and Sfx: 10+
The sound in Zupapa! is just plain glamerous, it is clear as a sunny day and makes you think its in real life, the music fits the worlds just like the backgrounds and it sounds like a professional is doing it, it is quite wonderful to listen to. The effects the Midgets or Zukkas [take your pick] make are very cute, and the variety in sounds for bosses and different levels gives this game that little bit of 'wow'.
Overall: 10
Zupapa! is a great game for all ages and is very addicting, that is if you have the money to spend on it! And it can always be replayed and not get boring due to it having no story. So put down those old fighting games, AWAY with Streetfighter and go and give Zupapa! A go!
