Asteroids
Review by Doodleheimer
"Kiss my......ASTEROIDS!"
Game Play-
8/10
If you've been living under a rock for the last twenty years (Cliche alert), then you obviously have never heard of Asteroids. All the other people who don't live under rocks have probably heard of Asteroids. Asteroids is a game in which you are a ship that has to shoot asteroids and spaceships.
You can either stand still and shoot them, or move around the screen and shoot them. (Personally, I choose to stand still, just because I can't shoot and move around at the same time, thanks to the button alignment. But a usually can get a score of over ten-thousand, so that must say a little something about my Asteroids skill)
There is also a two-player mode, which is pretty much exactly the same, except you take turns playing, you don't play simultaneously. Really, the only competition in this mode is seeing who can get the highest score. Since I can play a machine which can play without coins, I play two-player mode by myself, in hopes of getting twice the chance of a high score. Oh, I'm pathetic. (Not about Asteroids, but just in general)
Audio-
7/10
This was pretty much the same creepy theme as Space Invaders, except this suited the game more. You don't listen to that theme in Asteroids as much as you do in Space Invaders.
The only sound effects are the ship shooting, the enemies dying, the spaceships shooting, and that sound that sounds like a telephone ringing. I'm not kidding. Everytime that sound was made I thought my mom was calling and she found my drug stash....er *runs away* AY-YI-YI-YI-YI! YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME!
Graphics-
8/10
The graphics were actually pretty good then. Those asterois kind of look like those ice plates you find on your outside tarp in the middle of winter. Your ship is pretty small, small being bad. Whenever you shoot a big asteroid, it splits into smaller asteroids. When you shoot one of those asteroids, it splits into even smaller asteroids. When you shoot one of those asteroids, it just disappears.
Overall-
8/10
Doodleheimer's Recommendationitivity-
If you can find an Asteroids machine, play it. It is a great game, and a true classic. The versions of Asteroids out now are usually in 3-D, or not the original. In fact, a lot of classic arcade games are being ruined. Just like Pac-Man, Galaga, Pong, Frogger, & Centipede. Companies have little respect for the classics nowadays. Except for Namco, and their Namco Museum games. The two Asteroids machines I've played don't require coins to play.
