Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix

Review by gloBal enemy

"The Jukebox has arrived!"

Introduction
Dance Dance Revolution needs no introduction.

It is one of the best games ever but anyway, an introduction should be given.

Dance Dance Revolution (DDR for short), has another incarnation dubbed as ''Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix''. The game which has struck through Japan knocking everyone out and attracting every man, woman, kid and animal is now in its fullest form. 4th Mix is similar to a Jukebox because it has so many songs, as well as a SOLO feature with the added UP-left and UP-right arrows avaliable.

The original Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix in the arcade uses a nicely styled Arcade Dancing Mat for all your stomping needs where you can stomp and jump as hard as you want and not have to worry about breaking anything or pushing the mat somewhere.

Gameplay
The Dance Dance Revolution has a concept which is addictive at first sight, and lovable at the next. Simply put your foot on the arrow button as the arrow floats its way upto the top where there are white arrows just sitting there. By pressing the arrows in time with this, they sync together and the game gives you points. You get points for more in-time dances, as well as chains. Chains are performed by simply not stuffing your dance up and getting PERFECTs or GREATs every time. Once you recieve a GOOD, BAD, ''BOO!'' or ''MISS!'', you will have to start your chain combo again.

There is a life bar which depletes as the player misses steps and grows more moving, colourful and fills itself as the player does more steps and chains correctly. When the life bar depletes fully, the game is over.

If the player manages to finish the DDR song with some life left over, they will get a score ranging from SSS (absolutely no mistakes) to F (the rating given to someone who presses a button every now and then to keep the game going)..

The added features of 4th Mix however are the 'SOLO MODE' which uses the Up-left and Up-right keys. Taken directly from the SOLO DDR games, this was originally designed for only one person per machine but the arcade version has being changed to allow for two people to do this at one time. The solo mode is quite hectic and with a crowd watching, you better not stuff up!

Graphics

The graphics are not there to speak of! There are bright coloured backgrounds with lots of movement but thats about it. There are little sprites which pop up here and there. Unfortunately, there is no option to disable these annoying things.

Sound/Music
Like I said before, the JUKEBOX HAS ARRIVED. With over 100 classic Dance Dance Revolution songs recycled from the other games, this is truly what could be called ''Dance Dance Jukebox Revolution''.

With many classics such as BOYS, plus the new remixed versions from 4th Mix, and hits such as BUTTERFLY and KUNG-FU Fighting, this title has it all.

All the songs including their dances are here and in the arcade its even better. With those huge speakers with the huge TVs and the indestructable Arcade dance mats, there is nothing to lose. Most arcades have Dance Dance Revolution as their loudest game so all the easier for the dancer to keep in time with the music.

When the crowd comes to hear the music, they see someone doing a groovy dance. The coolest thing to tell your friends ''I'm a DDR-er''.

Other/Overall Presentation
With loud music, loud speakers and lots of people watching, this is what you could also call a socializing machine.

Length of Love : Forever. If you ever get your hands on an arcade machine of this game in your house, keep it. This game has everything people have come to learn and love about Dance Dance Revolution.
