Cruis'n USA

Review by ZeldaGuy

"Not Bad, but Slam on Brakes if you see this Game."

Cruis'n USA is one of the first types of games ever that actually has you in the driver's seat. While the game was great fun at first, It got real annoying, and I have gone on to bigger, and better things. I'll tell you how this mediocre game scores.

GRAPHICS:4

Well, Midway didn't do a great job here. I know for a fact they could have made the graphics better than what I saw in this game. Midway has no excuse for this. While some may disagree with me, I think these graphics were a major disappointment, and I expected a lot more. The cars seem boxy, the game glitches, and just really isn't well done. The only thing good about the graphics is some of the backgrounds in the levels. That is all I can say is descent about these graphics.

SOUND:7

A lot better than the graphics for sure, the sound is good for the most part. Most of the level music is good, and is catchy. Midway did a fine job with this. The car engine makes good sounds, can hear wheels screech etc. I think the sound is actually one of the stronger points of this game, and after playing I think you will catch my drift.

GAMEPLAY:5

While it's not bad, it's not good either and sits right in the middle. I know it's fun to sit in a seat and act like your racing going 150 MPH, especially you out there that can't drive yet, but this gam really gets boring. The levels seem about all the same, and to me just doesn't seem to deliver after the third or fourth time you play this game. You steer the car yourself kind of like a real car but not really, and can either use auto or manuel which I suggest auto. You will think this game is cool at first, but like me might find it boring after a while with the feeling of playing the same type level over and over.

STORY:6

You are Cruising the USA, and in different landmarks you have races you see who will come in first and win the gold trophy. It is a tad different than some racing games, but not really either. You will think it's cool seeing some of the scenes the first time, but after that it's like OK, that is enough of that.

CHALLENGE:5

This game is real easy for the most part. Cuis'n the USA takes almost no time at all, you should get 1st, 2nd or 3rd at the worst every time, and should breeze right through it. Even people less than 10 should be able to handle this game with ease. I think the 16 year olds and over will have the most problems because this system is harder to drive than a car, and you will not be used to it. That is were the game is frustrating to me.

REPLAY:2

I have replayed this game maybe three times after the first time I played it, and it is just really boring to me after that. For some reason, it is not fun to try and beat your other times, the levels get boring, which makes the game boring. Like me, I don't know if you will want to play this game again after using a $1 or more on it.

PLAY/MISS?MISS

I would avoid this game if I were you. There are tons of better racing games out there other than this such as Cruis'n World, and Exotica, and I would recommend those before you get within 100 feet of this game. Really, it's fine but don't waste your money.

OVERALL:5

While I thought it was cool at first, Cruis'n USA, got stupid, and boring, and I felt like I wasted a few quarters after I left the game. It's not that it's too terribly bad, it's just that there are so many better made games out there than this one. If you see it, don't play it because you could find a more productive way of using your coins instead of playing this game. If your looking for Cruis'n games, try the sequels because the blow this one out of the water.
