Mocap Boxing

Review by Doodleheimer

"Hey, as long as Mike Tyson doesn't eat anyone's ear."

Mocap Boxing is an innovative boxing game from Konami. It uses motion capturing technology, hence the name ''Mocap'' Boxing. Motion capturing technology follows your own move, which affects what the CPU does. Motion-capturing technology was also used in Konami's Police 911.

Release Date-2001
Publisher-Konami

Game Play-
9.5/10

Mocap Boxing is very innovative, but it doesn't go to it's full 100% potential. (It comes pretty darn close, though) What you have to do is dodge the enemies’ punches and hit your enemy when he's free and has no blocks, which is tricky because he is open only when he attempts to hit you. It's basically as close to the real thing, with the angles and defense, it's virtual boxing. Literally, as close to the real thing without the brain damage.

Control-
9.2/10

The game is not recommended for those who tire easily. You will need to have a lot of energy to play this. You have to virtually punch the enemy, and sometimes you get rushes, in which you have to punch the enemy X amount of times in X time. I tire pretty easily, but I need the workout. But, it makes the game really fun. And then there's the ducking. You must shift to the left, right, and duck in order to dodge the enemies’ punches.

Graphics-
7.8/10

For the most part, the entire place looked real, just like a real boxing ring with real boxers. The main problem is the ceiling. The top of the ring had only 4 colors to it. I can make a better ceiling than that on. The camera shifts with your moves, which is really sweet, and is one of the reasons why motion-capturing technology is so sweet.

Audio-
7.1/10

From what I could hear, the music sounded like hip-hop. It didn't really fit with the game as well as it could. It should've been a little softer. The sound effects were quite good, though. Bone crushing, face mashing, tooth breaking sound effects to be exact.

Enjoyability-
8.9/10

The game provides a good workout for anyone willing to play it. It will tire you, I guarantee it. Tire you to no end. Other than the physical energy loss, the game is hella-fun. Believe me, you will have a good time with this game.
