Killer Instinct
Review by GSephiroth
"Pretty good for a Rare fighting game..."
When Killer Instinct hit the arcades, I thought it would be another Mortal Kombat ripoff. But I was wrong. I knew that this was in a category of its own. Killer Instinct uses the same engine based on the Nintendo 64 to power up its system. What you get is a cool, 3D game that acts like a Street Fighter and looks like Mortal Kombat. Cool, just what I wanted. A mixture of both good games into one. Well, it's been out for a while now so without delay, here's the review.
1.Playability: 8/10
The arcade version doesn't have much except a one player mode and a two player mode. Nothing special here except you can choose over ten characters to play with. Each character has unique attacks and combos, as well as ultras and no mercies. No mercies are your versions of Mortal Kombat's Fatalities.
2.Sound: 7/10
It's a fighting game, so get used to it. There's cool sound effects but boring death screams during no mercies. Don't expect that much here. Nothing new and a bunch of boring announcer talk through out the whole game.
3.Graphics: 9/10
First of all, it's 3D. Whoopee. That amazes me. Maybe I better go to sleep. Ok, it's in 3D and the graphics are kind of smooth. There's literally no break up and game play is fast and constant as well as smooth.
4.Replay Value: 6/10
What can we do here? All we can do is get a top score and input three letters. That's it? That's all you can do. Well, maybe you can beat the crud out of your friend for laughs, but that's really lame. This game lacks in the replay value a lot. Ten characters. Yippee. We're happy.
Is it worth it?
Well, maybe if you are willing to spend your allowance on a game for no reason. Otherwise, wait for the home versions to come out.
