Donkey Kong
Review by SpyrotheDragon
"Mario aka Jumpman makes a big debute"
Well here it is ladies and gentleman. The debut of the classic game that introduced the most popular character to all video gamers everywhere, Mario. But it all didn't start out that way. Mario, began as the little known character known to gamers in 1981 as the ''Jumpman''.
In Donkey Kong, it was the Jumpman object to rescue from the evil Donkey Kong, the lovely New Yorker known to gamers as the lovely Pauline. But with the graphics back in 1981 she was not that lovely as she could be as us gamers could have imagined her today. But for the standards back then, which in their case their were none because this was one of the most earliest video games to date not including one of the earliest known as Pong to use video gamers. But for then the graphics were revolutionary in my opinion.
The sound in this game was par for the time. I'd say it introduced to gamers what we know today as repetitive themes if you know what I mean in that respect.
The gameplay was pretty good for the time. You had to control jumpman up cliffs and ladders, avoiding things that Donkey kong threw from the top in order to rescue Pauline. Then you had to get Donkey Kong himself. It was very good for the time.
As for controls, they were not too faulty. As a general statement you could usually go through a game and not have any problem with controlling Jumpman in his various adventures in his quest to rescue the beautiful Pauline from the hands of Donkey Kong. Although from time to time, you might run into a bad machine and of course then you would run into some problems with controlling the characters in the game but it was usually good as a general statement.
Overall this game was quite revolutionary in making video games loved by all of us today. This was also only the very beginning for the most loved and well known characters in all video gamedom, Mario. This led to future titles featuring Mario aka Jumpman such as Donkey Kong 2 and then in 1983 Mario's first official title as Mario on and arcade platform, Mario Bros. This was the first title including Luigi also. This led to probably the best game of all time for nintendo with it's release on Super Mario Bros in 1985. To put it this way, Donkey Kong was a starter game which led to many big things for nintendo and all video gamedom.
