Marvel vs. Capcom
Review by Mistears
"Another versus game, another winner."
This is the one of the latest of the ''VS'' series. The VS series started with X-Men vs Street Fighter which used the battle system from Marvel Super Heroes : War of the Gems and added a tag-team element. The first game wowed many gamers with its unlimited potential in combos and X-Men vs Street Fighter was soon followed up by Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter. But then came Marvel vs Capcom, one of the most innovative games where you get two characters but also a ''helper'' who you summon to cast a move or two.
GRAPHICS - 9
There really isn't much to complain here. Flawless animation and a complex number of touches makes this game nice and flashy. However it isnt anything breathtaking, just nothing to complain about. So it gets a 9.
SOUND - 8
Again nothing to complain about. The music fits any fighting game and there isn't anything too annoying, although some people found some of the character voices ridiculous. Every attack makes its appropriate sound and the sound REALLY adds to the game; you notice that if you play without sound or in an environment where you can't hear it.
CONTROL - 7
I never liked the controls to these games. It can get vey frustrating when a person dies because the game wouldn't allow them to do a level three hyper combo. But I suppose lack of experience plays quite a role in this. Also when using double team supers it can get frustrating when the game switches characters instead of performing the move. The three buttons at once to run and hyperjump never worked well either.
STORY – 0
Err...what story? Ok, the versus series did show glimpses of the whole streetfighter and marvel plots but did little to really tell the person what was going on. Also because there is such a huge variety of characters it doesn’t even really make sense (Everyone teams up to kill Onslaught).
GAMEPLAY – 10
Still haven’t gotten old for me. This is the first versus game that I’ve played relentlessly and never gotten tired of. Very fast and furious, gets your adrenaline pumping.
REPLAY – 9
You can’t get enough of this game. Especially when versing another human.
OVERALL - 9
I’ll probably play this game more than MvC2 because it still retains the six-button attack system while keeping things fresh. Just remember that I payed 50 cents to play this game a lot more than I played 25 cents to play X-Men vs SF or MSH v SF.
