Super Pac-Man
Review by Baldo
"Another super game in the series"
This addition to the Pac-Man series completely changed the gameplay of the three previous Pac-Man games for the Arcade. It was definitely a better change than the changes that were made in Pac-Man Plus, but it can't top the original Pac-Man. At least they changed the gameplay around to give gamers something new and different to play. They tried to do this with Pac-Man Plus, but failed. This game shines, however, with its changes.
Gameplay - 9/10
Instead of going through levels and eating little pellets, Pac-Man now prefers to dine on apples, bananas, donuts, hamburgers, and other food products. At least Pac-Man has finally learned to balance his diet. The power pellets that allow the hunted to become the hunter still make a return, but there are now super pellets that do even more. The super pellets triple Pac-Man's size and increase his speed. They also allow Pac-Man to run over the ghosts without receiving damage or inflicting damage onto the ghosts.
Super Pac-Man also features doors in the mazes that need to be unlocked by eating specific keys. Once a key is eaten, more of the maze opens up and Pac-Man can continue his gluttonous rampage. These doors add difficult to the game to make it more challenging. If you encounter a door while Pac-Man is in his ''super'' mode, he simply eats through the door and you no longer need to eat a key to open it.
Graphics/Visual Effects - 6/10
The addition of different food products instead of plain dots adds to the games graphical appearance as compared to the other Pac-Man games. The graphics are still very simple, but effective in their own right.
Audio - 6/10
The same familiar sounds make a reappearance in Super Pac-Man. There is also a mid-level music that adds to the games audio appeal. Sound is still a minimal part of the Pac-Man genre, but the game is still awesome regardless.
Replay Value - 10/10
This game has just as much replay value as the original or Ms. Pac-Man. Its still a fun game to play even after all these years.
To Be or Not to Be?
As with most of the Pac-Man arcade games, play this one if you can find it. Its definitely a great game.
Overall - 9/10
Once again Midway hits it big. Another great addition to the Pac-Man series.
