Jambo! Safari
Review by HumanHead
"An enjoyable game for all ages"
I just recently played this game at the local arcade and found it very enjoyable. The only reason I played it was because I saw the word SEGA on it. The object of the game to to catch and tag wild animals. It takes place in remote Kenya!
Graphics
Nice and colorful. The graphics were crisp and pretty pleasing to see. The details on the animals, rangers, background, and vehicles were great. Dust kicks up, water splashes in the lake, and feathers fly up when you hit birds!
Gameplay
Man, is this game super fun! The steering wheel and brake/cast net/other functions lever is easy to understand and use. You fly around the savanna in a jeep that can go Mach 2. Casting the net and trying to reel in your catch is exhilarating. The animal selection is kinda slim in the early levels, but later you can catch even Elephants! Zebras, Cheetahs, Ostrichs, Snuffaluffagus, and others are in the game. (with alot more!) There is also two difficulties, beginner, and not-so-beginner. The latter is just if you don't need a tutorial.
Characters
You have you typical stereotypes as characters. Four peeps, if memory serves its a British Dude, an American, a Chick, and a Funky Black guy. Each one has their own neato jeep to cruise. There might even be a secret jeep or a....secret character!? I won't give away any secrets, but later levels can actually give way to some storyline...
Music/Sound
Nothing too memorable, but it sure does fit into the setting. You might catch yourself humming the music a little later, or even yelling the commands the computer tells you. QUICK! or CATCH!
Extras
This is my favorite part of the game, you can earn bonus stages to capture exotic animal or a special case of rescue. It's either with a really hard time limit, or a really hard animal to catch. The other rangers sometimes help you out, too.
Pros:
Fun!
New!
Catch your own cheetah!
Cons:
Costs a little too much...
I really think this game is genuine fun for all ages, and I wish we could have seen it on the Dreamcast. But, I bet it takes a large chunk of the fun away when you don't have an arcade chair, steering wheel, and line of small children waiting for their turn behind you.
Go find this game! It is at least worth a try!
