Marvel vs. Capcom

Review by rahulnirmal2000

"A Classic Fighting Game!!"

Over the years, Capcom has released several ''VS.'' fighting games like X-Men Vs. Streetfighter and Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter, the newest being Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.

This is one of the newer and I think better games of the ''Vs'' games.
Like the two games I mentioned above, you fight with a team of two characters and can tag team them at will.

GRAPHICS - 8

There isn't much to say in this field. This game was made in 1998 and it shows it age. But the graphics still hold up quite nicely. You can tell that work was put into this game. The backrounds are well drawn and so are the characters. Their animations are quite smooth.

The overall animation in the game is very good and there is no slowdown, even with the massive combos that can be pulled off in the game.

SOUND - 8

The sound and music sound great thanks to the Q-Sound technology the arcade uses. The music depends on your tastes, but I personally like it. I think it fits the fast pace of this game.

STORY - 1

As in the previous two ''VS'' fighting games, the story is very poor. You just fight Onslaught at the end of the game. But the poor story won't deter you from the awesome gameplay this game has to offer.

GAMEPLAY - 9

The gameplay is what makes this game stand out among many other fighting games. This game is very fast paced unlike the Street Fighter or King of Fighter games. The ability to tag team your characters is nice.

A new feature put in this game instead of the previous two in the ''VS'' series is the ability to call in a third character to help you out. One is randomly picked when you select your characters.

Many say this game and the previous two I've mentioned above are just button mashing games. But I disagree. I feel that there is a degree of skill involved to win your matches. But the game is relatively easy to master, unlike some games like the Samurai Showdown games.

Basically, there are three levels you can attain. When you get them, you can perform super combos. You gain them by attacking or being attacked. You can do a combo with one character or have both of them execute theirs. Depending on the characters, you can inflict serious damage on your opponent!

REPLAY VALUE - 9

There aren't any secrets to unlock in the game, but it will still leave you coming back for more and more. Just play this game once and you will see what I mean. The gameplay warrants that. This game is especially fun with another human opponent.

The only reason I don't give this a perfect score is that I felt they could have put some characters from X-Men Vs Streetfighter or Marvel Super Heros Vs. Streetfighter in this game. Oh well, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 has accomplished that...

OVERALL SCORE (Not an average) -8

IN CONCLUSION.....

This game stands out among many others out there. But it really depends upon your taste. Some find games like Street Fighter or King of Fighters too slow paced and boring for them. This is the game for those type of people. I personally like all the major fighting game series, because each of them is special in their own way.

This game really isn't different from X-Men Vs Streetfighter and Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Streetfighter; so if you liked those games, you will like this one too.

The only game I feel is better than this when it comes to fast paced fighting is it's awesome sequel, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.
