Dance Dance Revolution Extreme
Review by DJ cream
"One of the greatest dance games comes back with mix number 8!"
Intro
Almost everyone between the ages 7 and 24 must have at least some understanding what Dance Dance Revolution is by now. For does who my not know what it is well it’s basically a dance simulator game where the objective is to step on arrows placed on the floor in unison, corresponding to the arrow on the screen. It’s also been on an episode of “King of the Hill.” Dance Dance Revolution Extreme is the 8th game out of this fantastic series. Lets go deeper into the subject shall we?
Game play: 10
The game play is just as Max2 with some new stuff. The song modifiers are back with one interesting feature. The brand new challenge (or as oni on the modifier screen) mode has been introduced. You know some maniac songs like Butterfly by Smile.dk is only a 6-footer? Well you can now beef these songs up to an 8-footers by selecting oni. The only problem is, there is no alternate steps for every song on extreme. Either way who wants an alternate step chart for Maxx300 anyways? Oh yeah non-stop mode is back with a new twist, the song come with pre-selected song modifiers.
Audio/Visual Aspects: 10
The song list alone deserves a 10. Extreme serves you more than a spoonful of various genres let alone songs to fit your need. They have stuff from techno to rap to Scottish bagpipe music. (Yes, I said Scottish bagpipe music) Plus Extreme consists an all-star soundtrack from other Bemani dance games like Guitar Freaks, Beatmania, and DDR mixes 1-7. Lets not forget the new songs on here too. As for the visual aspects…well the dancers must pay attention to the arrows, but the crowd (assuming there is a crowd) they can enjoy the eye-candy of the backgrounds.
Game Length/Replay Value: 10
A song takes one and a half to a full two minutes, then times that by how many songs your allow to play. Keep in mind that this does not include a waiting period of people searching for songs. As for the replay value…well it depends on your personality. If you are interested in this game of coarse you’re going to be hooked on this game. Or if your like one of those people who don’t have any rhythm at all, or if you have terrible stage fright and refuse to get on stage…well this game is not for you.
Overall: 10
Wow! Dance Dance Revolution Extreme clears my standards plus more. As it continues a tradition of keeping people happy by dancing for whatever reason possible, it should be held in our hearts to treasure till the End Of The Century and keep our sprites Higher than ever before. (I can’t resist some DDR puns)
