Marvel vs. Capcom
Review by DJellybean
"The BEST crossover game EVER, well as of now..."
This game is with no doubt the best game ever to have the reached the coin op arcades and has already blown competition away. You don't see anyone over at the other fighting game machines any more such as Mortal Kombat 4, Tekken 3, or even Street Fighter Alpha 3 (because of the home released version) every one is always crowding around the Marvel vs Capcom machine and for really good reason to also.
Graphics: 10/10
The game absolutely superb. This game is just fun to watch other people play. The characters are well animated with
a lot of special moves and even more super combos. There was character that ranged in all sizes. The cast was
Venom, Spider Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Gambit, Hulk, or War Machine from the Marvel characters. Then
the cast of Capcom came in which consisted of Chun Li, three in one Ryus (the Original Ryu, the Ken version with all
his moves, and the Akuma version which came with the Raging Demon) , Zangief, Morrigan, Captain Commando
(CapCom for short), Mega Man, Strider Hiryuu, and Jin (quite possibly the worse character in the game). There was
even more helper to choose from that had more frames than that of the other crossover games for the consoles. The
visual effects for this game was even better that you could expect. There was team up super combos that you could
perform which didn't even slow the machine down one bit. You could do a lot of attacks and the fluid animations
when cleanly through with no skipping. There was even the Duo Team Up attack which almost never slowed the
game down. The only time it ever slowed down and even turn the entire screen blank was when a team consisted of
two War Machine (namely the regular War Machine and Mega War Machine) the screen would just flip out and all
teh sprites the life bar, the super meters, and the opponents would just disappear for a full two to three seconds. That
is probably the only time it ever happened. The character select screen was amazingly done and full of bright color
and even animations. There was also the intro which done it all and had vivid colors and brightly made animations.
Watching the game play out should speak for it self.
Music/Sound: 9/10
The game had game had excellent music qualities and had crystal clear sounds too. This does perfectly for everybody
from Captain America's Thumbs Up Soldier to Spider Man's Do your Job, Hey, or Come on it all sounds
clean and crisp. The game even has the best Capcom music I have ever hear compiled into one game. The tunes were
very catchy and you sometimes found yourself in a flow of combos going with the beat of the music. There is
absolutely no slow down either during the music even with the game high frame rates and bunches of animation. The
themes seem to suit every one naturally and even had the fighting style type and music. Their is no reason not to like
it well at least in my opinion. The sound for the game is superbly made and very clean and clear. You could here
every smack to the head or tasting feet in your face the sound was very well made. There was even different sounds
for different strengths of punches like Jab to Fierce you knew what you threw from the sound it made. And Capcom
even took advantage of the QSound technology that made it easy too hear even with the amount of people talking.
Replay Value: 9/10
Until the home version gets to the US, this game will stay as good as it gets. There is even hidden characters like
Hyper Venom, Orange Hulk, Shadow Lady Chun Li, Lilith, and even the little sister of Mega Man, Roll. True most of
the characters were repeats well true for everyone except Roll, but they did have added bonuses but also had minuses
too. You can always play some coin jockey who thinks there the best but when you beat them it fun to just laugh at
them while the watch you play the rest of the game. There is loads of characters to choose from each with individual
styles of fighting and their own personality.
Gameplay: 10/10
The game play is pheominal. There is so many characters to choose from with lots of new fighting styles such as
Strider Hiryuu, Jin Saotome, or even Mega Man. There was helpers that you could choose from to set up your own
combos. Plus you can create your own combo just like the other games but better with new infinites and a wide
barrages of attacks to do. This game can even be played by youngest of gamesters with the Easy Mode option on.
This is the first company to introduce the tag out option which has given Capcom a new reputation on the Capcom
fighting titles. You can pull off amazing combos to amazing even the oldest of competitors. Like the previous
versions you can pull off Team Up supers for some real damage. And for the low usage of one extra super meter you
could pull of a infinite amount of Supers to do a lot of work on your opponents. You had so many combo options
from the oldest of off the ground combos and to the advanced to follow ups super cancelations, jumping combos,
launcher combos and anything you could think of it this game. The is just fun to watch as Venom goes furious with
his attacks or Wolverine's Weapon X. Super were just insane to watch with high combos and hard hitting beam
supers.
Overall: 10/10
This game is visually impressive as well as incredibly fun to play. There is so many thing that you can do in this game.
The graphics were brilliant with frame by frame expertise in artwork and color. The music was original with classic
tunes that mixed with the character's personality and style. The sound was mind blowing and cleanly done. The
gameplay is a Capcom trademark with re-defined styles and new ways to play. You could even taunt just like the
previous versions but not for the other game makers titles. You should really try this game is you haven't. For only
fifty cents it will truly impress you!!
