Marvel vs. Capcom

Review by GL

"Old enough to be only a quarter, new enough to still be fun!"

The CPS-2 board Capcom uses is somewhat old, but it still has the ability to bring in gamers and this game proves it. Marvel vs. Capcom is an insane fighting game which will throw you off your feet with high-speed fighting, insane combos and huge scary supers.

The graphics are large and nicely coloured and animated. From large characters like the Hulk to the smallest characters like Roll, each sprite is a work of art. The animation is smooth and fluid, but it doesn't take 26 frames to do a Hadouken like certain games. =) The backgrounds are good, but with all the action going on, you won't care anyway. A true test to the CPS-2 is the Variable Cross, a move where both partners jump onto the screen and are able to perform infinite supers. Having both players perform a Variable Cross is like bringing on an insane chaotic armageddon.

Sound is beautiful. Using the Q-Sound technology, Capcom has put in many great songs and dozens of great voices. You'll enjoy the tempo of all the songs, very upbeat which is a must for a game this quickly paced. The voices all fit their characters, from the Berzerker Barrage to the Shinkuu Hadouken, these voice talents must be well... talented.

Controls are very simple, combos, special moves and super moves can all be done with ease. Very responsive, which is a must since the moves are done quickly and a second can make the difference between survivng, and death.

The gameplay is the best of all the arcade fighters I've ever played. The combination of graphics, sound and controls makes this a great game. With an assortment of over 15 people (including secret characters) and more helpers than you can count, this game has variety. The helper system is intresting, using stocks to keep track of attacks and such. This game is easy to learn and this game will make you come back for a while.

Well this game show's once again that Capcom is the master of fighting games so if you haven't played this yet, GET TO THE ARCADE NOW!
