Battle Balls

"Heads Up! Best Puzzle Game ever!"

I remember when I first played this game. The catchy music, the fun gameplay, and the endless hours of fun. I spent a fair amount of my quarters on it as well.

In the vs mode it has a wide variety of characters, ranging from dragons to ''the girl next door'' and they are all unique with their own personalities, and they all like to be poor sports and make fun of the other character for losing. And the character that loses does a rather amusing performance as well. This is all very entertaining, and fun just to watch as well.

In the solo mode you just stack the balls up for hours on end, and it never gets old. The machine will then grade you on your play in a variety of ways such as style and technique.

Graphics- 9/10
Other than showing the balls on the screen, all the graphics really do is show the character in the vs mode, or in the solo mode they show random artwork, such as Mt. Rushmore, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Farm Fields. Not the best, but certainly excellent. Also, since this machine was only released in conversion kit format in the US, some machines may have ''imprints'' on the screen from the game that was in the cabinet before it. This, of course, is not the games fault and there fore cannot be counted in the score.

Music- 9/10
I really love the jingle that plays during the gameplay. It's the same one for all levels, which kind of get old, but it's a good tune nonetheless. There are also some catchy ''pre-game'' jingles before you actually start playing.

Gameplay- 10/10
You can be a skilled or underskilled person and get good gameplay out of this. The gameplay is rather simple. Just line up four matching colored balls and when they fall try to get more set of fours to touch. This builds up points and sends ''penalties'' to your opponent in the vs mode. If you are unskilled, just stack the balls up randomly, you'll get something sooner or later.

Replay Value- 10/10
Honestly, this is one of those games that doesn't have an ending so to speak, so the fun that can be gotten from it is endless. You can try to use different techniques, or just play the same way you always did. Either way, you are bound to have fun.

Final Score- 9.5/10, rounded to 10/10
