Brave FireFighters

Review by MrBiggs

"Surprisingly fun, considering no one gets shot"

Another ''occupational'' game from Sega, this time you're a firefighter racing to put out a fire. This is technically a lightgun game, but there's no gun. Instead, you have a 1.7 kg hose you sling over your shoulder that vibrates. To shoot water, just press a button on the hose, but DON'T PRESS IT TOO HARD. You're gonna break it and believe me, you don't want the button broken. The nozzle of the hose also twists to widen the stream. This is so you can safely put out people on fire (ever been on the wrong end of a fire hose at full strength? Well probably not, but picture riots in the south in the 50s and 60s and you'll get the idea). You go from area to area, putting out flames and if you put them out quickly enough, you get bonus time, which is your only real enemy in this game. If you don't put out the fire quickly enough, it spreads and so you'll have to spend more time you don't have.

Well, it's a Naomi game so everything is pretty. It's comparable to House of the Dead 2. Flames are 2 dimensional and kinda flatten when they are put out, but it's excusable. The flames make their appropriate light sourcing effect on everything and things move realistically when hit by the water before breaking up. Sounds are pretty standard, voices are ok, not bad like HOTD but not good.

It's fun, especially with two people. The pressure's on you to put out the fire quickly and it keeps spreading. I was sweating like a pig and I wasn't even hot. Imagine what real fire fighters have to deal with. I wonder how they would do in this game. Anyway, it's fun game and makes you appreciate firefighters more. And note, this is not a ''murder simulator'' that garners criticism from parents and media. Everyone can play it (well, not little kids, the hose is big) so check it out.
