Joust 2: Survival of the Fittest

Review by Kouga

"Has some weird changes, but still good"

Introduction - Give a brief description of the game and its history, if any

Following the success of their original game, Joust, Williams made a sequel to it a while later, adding a little more complexity to the game, with different looking stages, more colors, and some weird new features. Joust 2 is probably one of the rarest games ever. On top of being old, very few cabinets were produced.

Gameplay: 6/10

The game revolves around you jousting on a flying bird. In order to dismount the enemy birds, you must hit them with your lance higher than theirs. If it's at an equal position, you bounce off each other, and if yours is lower, you die. If you take too much time, the dreaded ''unbeatable'' pterodactyl will appear and rush you down with insane speed.

Now, for the changes
*Music - A welcome addition, doesn't detract

*More Colors- ditto

*Voice SFX- I don't get why they put this in. Maybe as appeal. But at any rate, they're no big deal, just slightly annoying IMO. But maybe that's just the ''careful warriors...'' one that sounds like they hired a prostitute to say.

*Different stages- yes, now you have more than one stage. The stages are nicely drawn for the time. However... They seem to be a bit more annoying to navigate, and aid in you dying.

*Robot stages- Lame. These are stupid stages where you have to poke this robot's four buttons to win. This is a really stupid idea, and there seems to be a glitch on the lower buttons some of the time that makes it extremely hard to land to press it.

*Pegasus mode- Almost completely useless. You turn in to a pegasus that drops like a rock in the air. In exchange, w00t you're stronger against GROUNDED opponents. Well, seeing as how there are no grounded opponents that can't fly (unless you count the fact that the knights CAN kill you after hatching and not being on a bird yet now), this is almost completely worthless. Maybe for use if the red knights are stupid enough to land.

*Continues- For this game, no big deal. But you keep your high score when continuing, which is stupid.

Overall, the gameplay is still pretty fun, like most of Williams's classics.

Graphics/Sound: 9/10

Excellent for the time it was made. I think I pretty much covered all of it in the gameplay section.

Play Time: You get to play quite a while on a quarter, provided you don't suck too bad.

Overall: 7/10

Another 7/10 for me... it's a good game still, but some of the new features are bizarre and pointless.
