Marvel vs. Capcom
Review by chickenKOD
"Great game to play and a definite classic!!!"
Marvel Vs. Capcom has got to be one of the greatest fighting game of the time. Capcom has yet again showed its ability to create state-of-the-art fighting games.
Gameplay- 9/10
Marvel Vs. Capcom has great gameplay. First, the game is constantly moving unlike slower pace fighting games. Marvel Vs. Capcom sends wave after wave of intense heart-pumping action. This game is easy to learn but it takes a lifetime to master. The best part of this game has got to be the dual character system. This allows you to select TWO characters from an arsenal of Marvel and Capcom heroes. Furthermore, you get a helper character that comes in and does a little attack like dashing across the screen and damaging your opponent. Along with this character system, you can switch anytime to slowly regenerate a little of your character's health, counter with your other character, control both characters at the same time, or use a devastating Team Super. The only problems I find with this game are the # of characters and Onslaught, the last boss. Although there are several secret characters, there are still fewer than 25 characters to choose from. This is nothing compared to the vast array of heroes in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 or Capcom Vs. SNK 2. Onslaught, the last boss is way too easy unless you are new. His first form is easily beatable without getting hit (aside from chip damage) and his second from is vulnerable to every single beam special or super in the game.
Graphics/Sound-9/10
What do you expect from a Capcom game? Of course it has good graphics and sound. This is one of the best 2-D fighter game I have seen for its time. Varying backgrounds and a constant onslaught of Hadoukens and Web Ball add to the intensity of the game. Whether it be the crackling of Akuma's Hurricane Kick or the somewhat annoying Megaman Tornado Hold, the sound is of the best quality. Once you see Hyper Megaman or Captain Storm, you have nothing else to say but Wow, those are good graphics.
Controls-8/10
An absolute necessity in fighting games is good controls. Marvel Vs. Capcom has an excellent control system making it suitable for all level of players. New players can use the innovative Easy Mode so they can execute specials and supers with less hassle and joy stick rotation, while higher level players can display skill and finesse with the Manual Mode when they get someone in a Final Atomic Buster or a Shin-Goku-Satsu (Raging Demon). The cool thing about this game is the combo system. Players can unleash a flurry of slashes and kicks with a certain combination which can be also done in the air. One problem, one word: Mashing. Ahhhhh yes, the infamous Button Mashing. Sorry to say but this game is a button masher game, not that I do so myself, but it is sad when little 5-year-olds play this. For example, I was playing this 8-year-old that slaughtered me by slamming his puffy little hands on the 6 buttons while moving around the joystick. Sadly he picked Megaman so I was harassed by a constant unending vile stream of blue fireballs along with squeaky grunts from Megaman. He ended up beating me by constantly switching characters. This made me mad. What kind of world is it where kids can beat their elders at video games when they can barely see the arcade screen?
Replay Value-8/10
This game has excellent replay value due to the fact that you can play with a friend over and over. This game in my opinion never gets boring, unless you play by yourself. I admit that I am getting kind of bored by myself after I beat the game with every character and watched Onslaught pathetically die several times. My advice is: play this game with a friend or versus someone or you will eventually get bored. I never get tired of making grown men cry when they lose.
Overall-9/10
This game overall is one of the best fighting games I have seen and I have seen a lot of fighting games. If you are a true fan of fighting games, this better be on your list. A definite buy if you own a Playstation. However, just playing it at home doesn't do the game any justice. Go on and get out and play it in your local arcade and whoop up on some people. Have fun with this game. I hope you found this review helpful and consider buying/playing this game. Thanks.
