Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Review by chickenKOD
"Capcom continues the trend with a great 2D fighting game"
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is just like the first one except better. All the creative concepts in the first are back and better in this sequel. Although a little different than the first, they still are great fighting games and are worth your attention.
Gameplay: 8/10
WOOHOO. This game is way more fun than the first. With the new 3 character system. The battles last even longer and are more fun. The ultimate thing about this game is the characters. There are over 50 characters from various Marvel and Capcom titles including all your old-school favorites and some you never heard of. The game runs smoothly and is fast paced. The triple character allows assisting, and tag teaming for ultimate devastation!!! All aspects of the gameplay are good and work well with the game. Probably the only problem I found was the time limit. To take out 3 characters you have 99 seconds. I usually end up running out of time, especially when playing against humans. One problem I find is that some combinations or characters are extremely cheap like anything with Juggernaut and Sentinel, a team of War Machine, Iron Man, and Gambit, and people that find a combo online and do it over and over. Luckily these people think they are good but they still get beat. This take the fun out of the game. The whole point is to vary your attacks and not just chip away at your opponent's life meter.
Graphics/Sound: 8/10
The graphics in this game are very good like usual, and the backgrounds are better than the first game. THe backgrounds are now 3d rendered and add variety to the game. Being a Capcom game, the graphics are awesome, especially the TAG TEAM TRIPLE SUPER!!! Totally awesome. Little things in the sound kinda tweak at my ears. The constant "I'm gonna take you for a ride" playing when you choose your character is annoying. However, the voice when it says "Hyper Combo Finish" is male and is better than the female voice on the first game.
Controls: 8/10
The new button system is a little strange at first. I actually prefer the 3 punch and kick system, but I still like the assist and easier triple combo addition. The first 4 buttons are your basic punch and kick buttons. However, you have to push light punch or light kick TWICE to execute a medium punch or kick. The back two buttons are your assist buttons. You push the top one to send out your next character to attack and you press the bottom one to send out your last character. With the new button system, you are unable to alternate between Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 and 2 with ease. Still, I like this new system. It adds a little more difficulty to combos.
Replayability: 8/10
Like any fighting game, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 gets boring when playing by yourself. You only can beat the game so many times. However, with more characters, you can play this game a little longer while experimenting with different combinations of people. When you play against people, you will never get tired. I never tire of slaughtering people at this game. I also enjoy playing through the game every time I visit the local arcade.
Overall: 8/10
Marvel Vs. Capcom receives a solid 8 out of 10 in my opinion. This game is a definite investment of your time and money. Buy it for Dreamcast or Playstation 2. Or if you are extremely wealthy and want to buy this game, buy it on arcade. Do not simply rent this game, BUY IT!!! Renting fighting games do them no justice. So get out of your house, drive or walk down to your local arcade and play this game. You will not be disappointed. I hope ths review has been helpful. Thank you.
